Expert Course Instructors:
Fran Barg PhD MEd
Dr. Barg is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at UPenn’s School of Medicine and an Assistant Professor in Medical Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology. Her research focuses on the use of mixed methods research as it applies to understanding the uneven distribution of risk and disease among ethnic groups.
Peter Cronholm MD MSCE
Dr. Cronholm is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at UPenn’s School of Medicine. His research focuses on health services regarding intimate partner violence, psychosocial needs of families and patients with cancer, adolescent depression, pre-teen violence prevention, and neighborhood variables on firearm injury and health.
Janet Deatrick PhD FAAN RN
Dr. Deatrick is an Associate Professor of Nursing at UPenn’s School of Nursing. Focusing on potentially vulnerable populations who are at risk for health care disparities, Dr. Deatrick provides leadership regarding children with chronic conditions and cancer, family management styles, health-related decisions, advanced practice pediatric nursing, and qualitative research methods.
Joel Fein MD MPH
Dr. Fein is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His research focuses on emergency department-based violence prevention, emergency department mental health evaluation, and procedural pain management.
Chris Feudtner MD PhD MPH
Dr. Feudtner is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Scientific Co-Director of PolicyLab. His research focuses on understanding the epidemiology and healthcare experience of children with complex chronic conditions, with a particular emphasis on palliative, end-of-life, and bereavement care, as well as hospital in-patient care.
David Grazian PhD
Dr. Grazian is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Penn's School of Arts and Sciences. In his research, Dr. Grazian employs a variety of ethnographic and other qualitative methods to study the production and consumption of commerical entertainment in the urban milieu.
Kristi Jackson MEd
Ms. Jackson is the founder and CEO of the qualitative research and training company Queri. In addition to her work as a software trainer, she also collects data for evaluation research projects and utilizes her skills in NVivo software to conduct her analysis. Her data is featured as the sample data set for the NVivo software package.
Cynthia Mollen MD MSCE
Dr. Mollen is an Assistant Professor of pediatrics at UPenn’s School of Medicine, and an attending in pediatric emergency medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her research focuses on improving adolescent health care through the emergency department, with an emphasis on reproductive and sexual health.
Marsha Wittink MD MBE
Dr. Wittink is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at UPenn’s School of Medicine. Her research focuses on patient centered approaches to improve mental health care for older primary care patients.
