The state of Texas currently has 7 active clinical trials seeking participants for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis research studies. These trials are conducted in various cities, including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin.
Clinical Procedures to Support Research in ALS

A Study of BIIB067 (Tofersen) Initiated in Clinically Presymptomatic Adults With a Confirmed Superoxide Dismutase 1 Mutation
Recruiting
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of tofersen in presymptomatic adult carriers of a superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) mutation with elevated neurofilament (NF). The secondary objectives of this study are to evaluate the safety and tolerability tofersen and to evaluate the effect of tofersen on pharmacodynamics (PD)/treatment response biomarkers when initiated prior to versus at the time of emergence of clinically manifest amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Mitochondrial Capacity Boost in ALS (MICABO-ALS) Trial
Recruiting
The purpose of this research is to investigate the validity of a previous clinical trial named EH301, which showed beneficial effects of anti-oxidant therapies in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). If validated by this study, providing over-the-counter anti-oxidants would be a simple, low risk, low-cost approach to significantly slow or stop the progression of ALS, for which currently no effective treatment exists. It is currently thought that oxidative stress is a major cause of... Read More
