A Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet), a largely plant-based dietary pattern, is relevant to CRC prevention and microbial production of anti-cancer metabolites in observational studies. A MedDiet can shift BA metabolism as shown in primates and when combined with calorie restriction, shows superior adherence and weight control in humans, given its palatability. To date, no studies have tested in an RCT the effects of a MedDiet alone (MedA), WL through lifestyle intervention (WL-A) or a calorie-restricted MedDiet for WL (WL-Med) on the BA-gut microbiome axis and its relevance to CRC prevention among AAs. A multidisciplinary team combining expertise in psychology, nutrition, microbiology, molecular cell biology, computational biology, medicine and biostatistics, proposes to conduct a four-arm RCT in which 232 obese AAs, 45-75 years old complete one of the following 6-month interventions: Med-A, weight stable; WL-A, calorie restriction with no diet pattern change; WLMed; or Control. The investigators will use samples and data collected at baseline, mid-study (month-3) and post-intervention to compare the effects of the interventions on 1) Concentration and composition of circulating and fecal BAs; 2) Gut microbiota and metabolic function; and 3) Gene expression profiles of exfoliated intestinal epithelial cells. The objective of this R01 application is to conduct a randomized controlled trial to test the efficacy of the Be Smoke Free, telephone-based, guided imagery (GI) intervention (IC) for smoking cessation compared to active behavioral control (CC). The study will recruit 1,200 diverse smokers from three states, Arizona, New York, and West Virginia to increase generalizability. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the IC or CC delivered by telephone by University of Arizona study coaches and will be assessed at 3- and 6-months post-enrollment by study staff. The primary outcome is biochemically verified 7-day point prevalence abstinence at 6 months. This innovative and rigorously designed project conducted by an experienced team has the potential to improve public health through the delivery of an innovative integrative GI intervention via telephone. The protocol has two aims; Aim 1 involves two experiments and Aim 2 involves three experiments. Under Aim 1, the investigator will identify that the frequency and time ranges of consonants produce consonant enhancement (i.e., "target frequency range" and "target time range", respectively), and that the frequency and time ranges of consonants cause consonant confusions (i.e., "conflicting frequency range" and "conflicting time range", respectively). Aim 2 tests the effects of the frequency and time ranges, identified through Aim 1 on consonant recognition with each of the four signal processing conditions: no signal processing (i.e., control condition), the target frequency and time ranges intensified alone, the conflicting frequency and time ranges suppressed alone, and both target range intensification and conflicting range suppression. The goal of this single-center, single-blind, randomized, controlled, parallel group, interventional trial is to evaluate antidepressant efficacy of yoga monotherapy of 12-weeks duration in 180 adults meeting diagnostic criteria for mild-to-moderate major depression at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. This study evaluates whether non-cigarette tobacco products (e-cigarettes) can help smokers quit smoking as compared to traditional quit methods (nicotine replacement therapy or varenicline/Chantix). Participants in this study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups, then will have a choice between the offered products of that group. Participants in the e-cigarette group will have a choice of e-cigarette brand and flavor. Participants in the medication group will have choice between nicotine replacement therapy (patches and lozenges) or varenicline, also known as Chantix. Participation will last 6 months and will include weekly phone calls for the initial 7-weeks plus a 11-week phone call and a 6-month follow-up visit. This project addresses the significant challenge of providing evidence-based non-pharmacologic pain management to rural-dwelling Veterans in the VA healthcare system who have chronic pain. For this preparatory phase (UG3) the investigators will conduct a pilot study of 40 rural VA patients with chronic pain to assess the feasibility of delivering RAMP (experimental intervention for the UH3 trial) in terms of recruitment and engagement, intervention fidelity and adherence, data collection, and other key metrics. The goal of Advanced Fetal Imaging - Phase II is to advance fetal MRI imaging by designing MRI coils specifically for pregnant women and testing recently developed MRI image acquisition techniques. 500 patients will be prospectively recruited to undergo a fast breast MRI examination. The women will be recruited for the study will meet the following criteria: 1. African American 2. negative DBT examination 11 months prior to recruitment 3. Heterogeneously and Extremely breast densities 4. clinically asymptomatic- no palpable masses, focal thickening or clinically significant discharge. Investigators will identify these patients EPIC database utilizing the date of their last mammogram. The purpose of this research is to find hidden cancer with an experimental magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan called spectroscopic magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI). That spectroscopic MRI scan will be used to increase the area of the brain receiving radiation and then the dose of radiation in attempt to kill more of the cancer. Proton radiotherapy and bevacizumab (Avastin) are used to minimize the possible side effects of this approach. Read Less
