Cannabidiol and Older Adult Cannabis Users
Recruiting
Cannabis use increased 10 fold among adults over the age of 65 between 2014 and 2016 but very little data exists on the extent of their harmful effects on health and behavior. The overarching goal of this project is to test a novel harm reduction strategy in which older individuals who seek to use cannabis for pain, anxiety or mood problems (depression/anxiety) will be randomly assigned to one of three conditions in an 8 week randomized controlled trial: hemp-derived CBD+THC, hemp-derived CBD-TH... Letrozole With or Without Paclitaxel and Carboplatin in Treating Patients With Stage II-IV Ovarian, Fallopian Tube, or Primary Peritoneal Cancer
Recruiting
This phase III trial studies how well letrozole with or without paclitaxel and carboplatin works in treating patients with stage II-IV low-grade serous carcinoma of the ovary, fallopian tube, or peritoneum. Letrozole is an enzyme inhibitor that lowers the amount of estrogen made by the body which in turn may stop the growth of tumor cells that need estrogen to grow. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by... Read More

THRIVE Study: Positive Affect Training for Endocrine Therapy Medication Adherence
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to pilot and refine an online behavioral intervention based on Positive Affect Training (PAT) that aims to increase positive emotional attitudes and decrease negative emotional attitudes toward endocrine therapy (ET, i.e., anti-hormonal medication) and to increase positive affect and decrease negative affect more generally, among post-treatment breast cancer survivors who are prescribed ET to prevent recurrence of breast cancer.

Randomized Clinical Trial of a Multi-Modal Palliative Care Intervention
Recruiting
Adults diagnosed with metastatic cancer commonly experience depression and anxiety symptoms, which can interfere with advance care planning. This randomized clinical trial evaluates a novel, piloted, primary palliative care intervention that addresses advance care planning and psychosocial needs of patients with metastatic cancer. The intervention focuses on patients with elevated anxiety and depression (anx/dep) symptoms-those with highest psychosocial needs who may be at greatest risk for adva... Read More

Biomarkers for Peripheral Circadian Clocks in Humans
Recruiting
The purpose of this project is to improve our understanding of peripheral circadian rhythms in humans. Circadian clocks are present in most tissues of the body with importance for optimal physiological function, health, and behavior. This project will utilize simulated jetlag protocols to systematically test novel hypotheses about the regulation of peripheral circadian rhythms in humans. Specifically, we will examine how changes in the time of when we are exposed to light and the timing of when... Read More

5-Years PMCF Study of Ceramic Dental Implants One-piece Versus Two-piece.
Recruiting
The goal of this cohort observational study is to compare in the survival rate of ceramic dental implants placed in patients with missing or hopeless teeth . The main question\[s\] it aims to answer are:
* Are there any significant differences in survival rate between the use of one-piece ceramic implant versus the two-piece (TL) variant?
* What are the complications associated to the procedure and differences between the two groups.

Mitochondrial-targeted Antioxidant Supplementation for Improving Age-related Vascular Dysfunction in Humans
Recruiting
The majority of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) occur in men and women ≥60 years of age. Vascular dysfunction, including endothelial dysfunction, as assessed by reduced endothelium-dependent dilation (EDD), and stiffening of the large elastic arteries (i.e., aortic and carotid artery stiffening), is a major mechanism of increased risk of CVD in older adults. Excess production of ROS (reactive oxygen species) by mitochondria (mtROS) has emerged as a central feature of vascular oxidative stress with... Read More

Novel Time-efficient Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training for Lowering Systolic Blood Pressure
Recruiting
Above-normal systolic blood pressure (SBP), defined as SBP \>/= 120 mmHg, is the major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, stroke, cognitive decline/dementia, and other chronic health problems. Despite the availability of treatments to lower SBP, over 75 percent of adults with above-normal SBP fail to control BP, which has led to a nearly 50 percent increase in the number of deaths attributable to BP over the past decade. Therefore, above-normal SBP is a major public health burden... Read More

Nitrite-boosting Therapy for Improving Physiological Function in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease
Recruiting
Nitric oxide (NO) is an essential molecule in the body that is decreased in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), leading to reductions in vascular, movement ("motor") and cognitive functions. This study will determine if daily oral supplementation (3 months) with a supplement that increases NO in the body, i.e., nitrate-rich beetroot juice, improves vascular, motor and cognitive function in patients with CKD; this study will also provide insight into the biological reasons (mechanisms) by...
