There are currently 26 active clinical trials seeking participants for Anorexia Nervosa research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for Autism participants are California, New York, Massachusetts and Ontario.

Identifying Networks Underlying Compulsivity in Anorexia Nervosa for Targeting With Neuromodulation
Recruiting
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of refractory Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Anorexia nervosa (AN) is characterized by restrictive eating leading to low weight and associated complications. There is an emerging understanding that the symptoms of OCD and AN overlap as AN can be characterized by obsessive thought patterns around food and compulsive restricting and weight loss b... Open vs. Blind Weighing Study In Adolescents and Young Adult With Eating Disorders
Recruiting
Current treatments for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with eating disorders (EDs) do not effectively address a central ED symptom - anxiety about weight gain - which contributes to poor outcomes. The proposed study evaluates the feasibility, acceptability, efficacy, and underlying mechanisms of an enhanced version of "open weighing," a cognitive-behavioral intervention designed to target anxiety about weight gain in AYAs with EDs. Understanding how to better treat AYAs with EDs, and identif... Read More

Study of Food Aversion in Patients With Anorexia Nervosa
Recruiting
This study uses a meal-challenge protocol to assess if patients with anorexia nervosa show a differential metabolism in response to food in comparison to healthy controls. This study determines how heritable and biochemical factors influence food metabolism in anorexia nervosa in order to develop more effective treatment strategies.

Ketone Supplementation in Eating Disorders
Recruiting
This study will investigate the effects of ketone supplementation on eating behavior including drive to binge eat or restrict, mood and anxiety in individuals with anorexia or bulimia nervosa. In addition, the investigators will contrast the effects of active ketone supplementation versus placebo on electroencephalogram (EEG) measurement. All subjects enrolled in the study will undergo EEG on two consecutive days at the beginning of the study, after active ketone supplementation or placebo drink... Read More

Gastrointestinal Interoception in Anorexia Nervosa
Recruiting
Anorexia nervosa (AN) has among the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness, yet we have a poor understanding of the biological causes of this disorder. In this study, we use a novel mechanosensory intervention to examine the basic question of whether individuals with AN have abnormal "gut sensations" and whether such indicators are associated with adverse consequences from the disorder.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in the Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa
Recruiting
Anorexia nervosa is a severe psychiatric disorder associated with food avoidance and body image distortion, that is feeling fat despite being underweight. It is the third most common chronic illness among adolescent females, and its mortality reaches its peak between the ages 16 and 29 years old. There are very few treatments for anorexia nervosa and especially no biological treatments have been approved. Recent brain imaging research has repeatedly implicated brain circuits that include the ins... Read More

Efficacy of Non-invasive Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Treatment of Low Weight Eating Disorders
Recruiting
This project includes a 4-week randomized trial comparing pre-meal vagal nerve stimulation (taVNS) to pre-meal sham stimulation. The aims will assess if taVNS results in greater satisfaction, greater calorie consumption, less self-reported fullness, decrease in eating disorder symptoms, and less anxiety than sham stimulation. Gastric parameters (rhythm, motility, and pH level) will also be measured to assess stimulation as a mediator of autonomous eating

Smart Technology for Anorexia Nervosa Recovery
Recruiting
Anorexia nervosa (AN) has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, with a typical onset in adolescence. Although family-based interventions are efficacious for up to 75 percent of adolescents with AN, approximately 30 percent will relapse after recovery. There is a critical need to improve treatments and prevent post-discharge relapse following acute treatment to improve outcomes for adolescents with AN. To address this critical need, the investigators developed an adaptive smart-phone... Read More

This is an interventional study that will test the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of the Metabolic Diet, which was designed as a treatment for women with anorexia nervosa to remain weight-stable after they have been restored from low weight. Participants will be adult women with anorexia nervosa who have been recently restored to normal weight and adult women with no history of eating disorders. After enrollment, participants will start meeting weekly with a registered dietitian to implement... Read More

Interoceptive Exposure for Adolescents With Low Weight Eating Disorders
Recruiting
This project includes a parallel group randomized controlled trial comparing two psychological treatments: 1) Exposure-based Family Therapy (IE) vs. 2) Family Based Therapy (FBT) for low weight eating disorders with 12 month follow-up. Primary outcomes are expected body weight and clinical impairment. Three mechanisms of change (Autonomous Eating, Non-Judgmental Body Awareness, and Extinction Learning) will be examined in a process mediation models of change.
