The city of Chicago, Illinois, currently has 340 active clinical trials seeking participants for Cancer research studies.
Breast Cancer Pre-habilitation and Prospective Surveillance to Prevent, Detect, and Optimize Physical and Function
Recruiting
The goal of this research study is to determine the feasibility and potential effects of physical therapy and enhanced patient education delivered before breast cancer treatment. Physical therapy before cancer treatment aims to help with early identification and self-management of physical and functional side effects from cancer treatment. Side effects could be joint pain, muscle weakness, or fatigue that contribute to functional impairment. The main questions this study aims to answer are: 1.... Read More

Lymphedema Sensor Technology Development Study
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial in adult patients diagnosed with upper extremity lymphedema is to test the safety and effectiveness of small, wearable sensors that may be able to measure lymphedema. The main questions this study aims to answer are: * Do these sensors detect lymphedema? * If so, how accurate are these wearable sensors? Participants will complete one in-person measurement session and one phone call with study staff 14 days after the measurement session to check-in on the partici... Read More

T-DM1 and Tucatinib Compared with T-DM1 Alone in Preventing Relapses in People with High Risk HER2-Positive Breast Cancer, the CompassHER2 RD Trial
Recruiting
This phase III trial studies how well trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1) and tucatinib work in preventing breast cancer from coming back (relapsing) in patients with high risk, HER2 positive breast cancer. T-DM1 is a monoclonal antibody, called trastuzumab, linked to a chemotherapy drug, called DM1. Trastuzumab is a form of targeted therapy because it attaches to specific molecules (receptors) on the surface of cancer cells, known as HER2 receptors, and delivers DM1 to kill them. Tucatinib may stop t... Read More

Empowering Vulnerable and Resilient Latinas to Obtain Breast Cancer Care
Recruiting
The investigator and study staff will identify, recruit and randomize Latina participants with elevated genetic and Social Determinants of Heath (SDH) risks. Within 1 week of enrollment, all Latina Aim 1 participants in both study arms will engage in three 30-minute, individual, phone-based sessions with the study team across 3 consecutive weeks

Using MRI to Identify Areas to Receive Lower Doses of Radiation Treatment in Men With Prostate Cancerdose Mapping to Preserve Quality of Life
Recruiting
The purpose of this research is to gather information on the safety and effectiveness of using an imaging technique called magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to decrease radiation dose to the uninvolved prostate (areas of the prostate that do not clearly have cancer cells) while increasing radiation dose to the nodules (hardened areas of the prostate that have cancer cells).

Testing Whether the Addition of Carboplatin Chemotherapy to Cabazitaxel Chemotherapy Will Improve Outcomes Compared to Cabazitaxel Alone in People With Castrate-Resistant Prostate Cancer That Has Spread Beyond the Prostate to Other Parts of the Body
Recruiting
This phase III trial compares the effect of adding carboplatin to the standard of care chemotherapy drug cabazitaxel versus cabazitaxel alone in treating prostate cancer that keeps growing even when the amount of testosterone in the body is reduced to very low levels (castrate-resistant) and that has spread from where it first started (primary site) to other places in the body (metastatic). Carboplatin is in a class of medications known as platinum-containing compounds. Carboplatin works by kill... Read More

Phase IIB Trial of Bazedoxifene Plus Conjugated Estrogens
Recruiting
Women at risk for development of breast cancer and experiencing vasomotor menopausal symptoms (hot flashes) will be randomized to bazedoxifene (BZA) plus conjugated estrogens (CE) for 6 months versus a wait list control. Two risk factors for development of breast cancer will be studied pre-study and after 6 months: fibroglandular volume (FGV) on mammogram as assessed by Volpara software and proliferation by Ki-67 immunocytochemistry in benign breast tissue acquired by random periareolar fine nee... Alternate Day Fasting After Surgery for Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy
Recruiting
Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer and ovarian cancer is the most lethal. The management of both advanced cancers is a combination of chemotherapy and surgery. Standard of care chemotherapeutic treatment for uterine and ovarian cancers is toxic and severely disruptive to the patient's quality of life with the potential for devastating short and long-term side effects. The role of fasting and ketogenic diets has been evaluated in a mixed cancer population and previously show... Read More

A Study of Pembrolizumab in Combination With Chemotherapy for Head and Neck Cancer
Recruiting
By doing this study, the research team would like to learn if using a blood test that measures the amount of tumor DNA in blood can help guide how to use chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy for individuals with head and neck cancer. Using this blood test, the research team hopes to learn if intermittent (occasional) chemotherapy added to immunotherapy will work better than immunotherapy alone. Participation in this research will last about two years.

This phase III trial compares pembrolizumab with radiation therapy to pembrolizumab without radiation therapy (standard therapy) given after pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck that has spread from where it first started (primary site) to other places in the body (metastatic). Pembrolizumab is a type of immunotherapy that stimulates the body's immune system to fight cancer cells. Pembrolizumab targets and blocks a protei... Read More
