Through this award, Michael Hoerger, PhD, MSCR, a psychologist at the Tulane Cancer Center in Louisiana, will lead a study called EMPOWER 3 designed to test an educational intervention to help patients understand palliative care, use it, and feel better emotionally and physically. Participants will be adults with serious cancer diagnoses. Participants will be randomized into two groups. Patients in the control group will get enhanced usual care, meaning standard cancer care and several additional healthcare-related brochures. Patients in the intervention group will get enhanced usual care plus an educational video developed by the investigators and other materials designed to increase understanding and use of palliative care. Family members of patients in the intervention group may also attend if desired. The investigators will track participants' understanding of palliative care, attitudes toward palliative care, symptoms over 6 months of follow-up, and palliative care utilization. Read Less

This phase 3 trial compares the addition of nivolumab to chemotherapy (carboplatin and paclitaxel) versus usual treatment (chemotherapy alone) for the treatment of anal cancer that has spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Chemotherapy drugs, such as carboplatin and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving nivolumab together with carboplatin and paclitaxel may help doctors find out if the treatment is better or the same as the usual approach. Read Less

The masseter muscle is one of the muscles in the lower face used for chewing. The prominence of the masseter muscle can appear as a widened lower face which some individuals deem as aesthetically undesirable and can be treated by selectively weakening the masseter muscles with small quantities of botulinum toxin. The purpose of this study is to assess how safe and effective injection of onabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX) is in adult participants with Masseter Muscle Prominence (MMP). BOTOX is being investigated for the treatment of Muscle Masseter Prominence. In Period 1, participants are placed in 1 of 2 groups, called treatment arms. Each group receives a different treatment, placebo or BOTOX. There is a 1 in 4 chance that participants will be assigned to placebo. In Period 2, eligible participants can receive an optional open-label retreatment of BOTOX. Approximately 200 adult participants with MMP will be enrolled in the study at approximately 20 sites in the United States. Participants will receive intramuscular injections across both the right and left masseter muscle of either BOTOX or placebo on Day 1. Participants who are eligible for re-treatment will be given BOTOX injections on either the Day 180, 210, 240, or 270 visit and will be followed up for up to 6 months. There may be higher treatment burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend regular monthly visits during the study at a hospital or clinic. The purpose of this study is to test if treatment with tralokinumab is safe and effectful to treat moderate-to-severe atopic hand eczema. This will be judged by a range of assessments that rate the severity and extent of atopic hand eczema and its symptoms, as well as general health status and quality of life. The trial will last for up to 40 weeks. There will be up to 15 visits, 3 of which will be conducted by phone. The first part of the trial is called a screening period and will last up to 4 weeks. For the first 16 weeks after screening, trial participants will receive either tralokinumab or dummy injections every two weeks. After the first 16 weeks, all trial participants will receive tralokinumab injections every two weeks for 16 weeks. The last part of the trial is a period of 4 weeks after the end of treatment period, where trial participants are off the drug for safety follow-up. Read Less

The study will test a multifaceted strategy for implementing an intensive blood pressure intervention protocol targeting systolic BP <120 mmHg on cognitive decline in racial minority and low-income hypertensive patients in primary care. The proposed study will generate urgently needed data on effective, adoptable, and equitable intervention strategies to reduce blood pressure-related cognitive decline in low- income and minority populations. If proven effective, the implementation strategy for intensive blood pressure reduction could be adapted and scaled up in diverse primary care settings to prevent cognitive decline and clinical dementia. This phase II trial compares the effect of atezolizumab in combination with usual treatment with cabozantinib to cabozantinib alone in patients with papillary renal cell carcinoma that has spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) is a type of kidney cancer that forms in the lining of the tiny tubes in the kidney that return filtered substances that the body needs back to the blood and remove extra fluid and waste as urine. Most papillary tumors look like long, thin finger-like growths under a microscope. It is also called papillary kidney cancer or PRCC. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as atezolizumab, may help body's immune system attack the cancer and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Cabozantinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of an abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply and may also prevent the growth of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. By these actions it may help slow or stop the spread of cancer cells. Combination therapy with atezolizumab and cabozantinib may shrink the cancer and allow a longer survival time in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Read Less
