Hypertension Paid Clinical Trials in Massachusetts

The investigators will study whether the drug tadalafil improves shortness of breath in 126 Veterans with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and high blood pressure in the lungs. The investigators will also assess whether tadalafil improves quality of life, home daily physical activity, exercise endurance, the frequency of acute flares of COPD, blood pressure in the lungs, and lung function. Veterans who enroll in the trial will be allocated by chance to either active tadalafil or an inactive identical capsule (placebo). Neither the Veteran nor the investigator will know whether the Veteran is taking tadalafil or placebo. Veterans will be followed closely in clinic or by telephone at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 months, with attention to side effects and safety. At 1,3, and 6 months the investigators will repeat the questionnaires and testing of blood pressures in the lung and lung function. A total of fifty-five (55) patients with liver cirrhosis will be enrolled in this study to produce and validate dedicated Ga-PSMA-PET/MRI acquisition protocols. The specific hypotheses include: Ga-PSMA PET/MRI may allow robust and reproducible noninvasive in vivo quantitation of hepatic macro and microhemodynamics in cirrhotic patients Dedicated simultaneously acquired DWI sequences might quantitate liver fibrosis and improve hemodynamic quantitation. The investigators primary project goal is to improve clinical outcomes, including mental health outcomes, among postpartum at-risk women experiencing health disparities by increasing awareness, detection, and timely care of postpartum hypertension, mental health and cardiovascular complications. The investigators will accomplish this by comparing the effectiveness of two multi-component multi-level healthcare delivery models focused on early detection and control of postpartum hypertension and the social and mental health factors known to impact maternal outcomes, with the current standard of care and with each other. In this research study, we will assess the safety, tolerability, comfort, and feasibility of lowering intraocular pressure using a novel Contact Lens Drug Delivery System with latanoprost. Latanoprost is a well-studied medication and has been used to treat glaucoma for decades. Currently, latanoprost is FDA-approved to be administered to patients as eye drops, but using eye drops has challenges (having to remember to take the drop, getting the drop in the eye). This clinical trial is being done to determine the safety, tolerability, and effectiveness of using latanoprost to deliver latanoprost in a new way (through a drug-eluting contact lens). This research study aims to learn more about the impact the hormone aldosterone on the heart. Primary aldosteronism is a condition where the body's adrenal glands make too much of the hormone aldosterone, which can cause high blood pressure and increase the risk of heart and kidney disease. Treatment with medications that block aldosterone can reduce that risk. This study is trying to learn whether treatment with a medication that blocks aldosterone can improve heart function in people who make too much aldosterone. Read Less
