The purpose of this study is to understand if combining Low Vision Rehabilitation (LVR) with Emotional Regulation Therapy (ERT) can help people with inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) that experience emotional distress related to participants' vision loss. The study team hypothesize that treatment with LVR will produce measurable functional gains and that these effects will be enhanced by ERT-linked improvement among the subgroup of IRD patients with elevated vision-related anxiety. This clinical trial evaluates the use of self-collected vaginal samples for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing in patients referred for a colposcopy and/or cervical excisional procedures to improve cervical cancer prevention. HPV is a common virus which usually causes infections that last only a few months, but sometimes can last longer. HPV is known to cause a variety of cancers including cervical cancer. Even though there are ways to detect cervical cancer, many individuals are not diagnosed. Over half of all new cervical cancer cases are among those who have either never been screened or who are not screened enough. The low screening numbers show more testing needs to be done. Without appropriate screening and care, preventable precancer may turn into cancer. A new way to detect cervical cancer is to have individuals collect their own sample for HPV testing to know their risk for cervical cancer. This may give individuals more flexibility and comfort having the ability to collect samples themselves, compared to a doctor performing a speculum examination and collecting the samples in a clinic. Information gathered from this study compares clinical accuracy of HPV testing on self-collected vaginal samples versus cervical samples collected by clinician. The Self-collection for HPV Testing to Improve Cervical Cancer Prevention (SHIP) Trial is part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI)'s Cervical Cancer 'Last Mile' Initiative, a public private partnership that seeks to increase access to cervical cancer screening. The SHIP Trial focuses on developing clinical evidence to inform the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s regulatory reviews of self-collection approaches as alternative sample collection approaches for cervical cancer screening. Several industry partner-specific self-collection device and assay combinations will be non-competitively and independently evaluated with a similar study design framework to inform pre-approval and/or post-approval regulatory requirements. This is a prospective, multicenter, open-label, randomized trial comparing mitral valve (MV) transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) to surgical repair (1:1 ratio) in patients with primary, degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR). The trial will be conducted in the U.S., Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom, and is designed as a strategy trial. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness (prevention of thromboembolic events) and safety (major bleeding) of adding oral anticoagulation (OAC) to background antiplatelet therapy in patients who develop new-onset post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after isolated coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. All patients with a qualifying POAF event, who decline randomization, will be offered the option of enrollment in a parallel registry that captures their baseline risk profile and their treatment strategy in terms of anticoagulants or antiplatelets received. The APOLLO study is being done in an attempt to improve outcomes after kidney transplantation and to improve the safety of living kidney donation based upon variation in the apolipoprotein L1 gene (APOL1). Genes control what is inherited from a family, such as eye color or blood type. Variation in APOL1 can cause kidney disease. African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans, Hispanic Blacks, and Africans are more likely to have the APOL1 gene variants that cause kidney disease. APOLLO will test DNA from kidney donors and recipients of kidney transplants for APOL1 to determine effects on kidney transplant-related outcomes. Read Less

The research is studying virtual reality (VR)-directed brain-gut behavioral therapy (BGBT) as a pain treatment option for hospitalized patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This study is being done to learn if VR-directed BGBT is feasible and acceptable for patients with IBD in addressing pain in the hospital setting. The study hypothesizes that: * At least 75% of enrolled participants will complete the VR-directed BGBT inpatient program * Hospitalized patients with IBD will find VR-directed BGBT acceptable as a pain treatment option in the inpatient setting. The overall goal of this project is to model human joint biomechanics over continuously-varying locomotion to enable adaptive control of powered above-knee prostheses. The central hypothesis of this project is that variable joint impedance can be parameterized by a continuous model based on measurable quantities called phase and task variables. This project will use machine learning to identify variable impedance functions from able-bodied data including joint perturbation responses across the phase/task space to bias the solution toward biological values. This study is a multi-center, randomized controlled feasibility trial to evaluate the initial safety and efficacy of a novel extracorporeal blood purification (EBP) therapy in critically ill patients with pathogen associated shock across 15 U.S. sites. Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) has a high incidence of mortality and significant morbidity, with mortality exceeding 30% in the first two days.The initial injury is related to increasing intracranial pressure, cerebral edema, and neuronal injuries associated with the release of iron. Iron has been shown to increase the incidence of cerebral edema, ischemia, and formation of hydrocephalus. Deferoxamine mesylate (DFO), a hydrophilic chelator, creates a stable complex with free iron thus preventing the formation of iron related free radicals. This trial will evaluate the safety and efficacy of clinical deferoxamine for the treatment of aSAH for patients that are admitted to the hospital at the University of Michigan or Peking University Health Science Center. Eligible participants will be enrolled and randomized to 1 of 2 doses of Deferoxamine or placebo (saline). The proposed study focuses on testing a novel adapted evidence-based multilevel intervention, Deprescribing Thyroid Hormone In Older Adults (D-THIO), to support thyroid hormone deprescribing (dose de-escalation and/or discontinuation) in older adults with thyroid hormone overtreatment and/or misuse and reduce patient harm. Findings from this study will lay the groundwork for broad implementation of D-THIO and serve as a model for deprescribing inappropriate medications for other endocrine conditions and conditions with biochemical monitoring. Over the last decade, radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) has become an established treatment for ventricular arrhythmias (VA). Due to the challenging nature of visualizing lesion formation in real time and ensuring an effective transmural lesion, different surrogate measures of lesion quality have been used. The Ablation Index (AI) is a variable incorporating power delivery in its formula and combining it with CF and time in a weighted equation which aims at allowing for a more precise estimation of lesion depth and quality when ablating VAs. AI guidance has previously been shown to improve outcomes in atrial and ventricular ablation in patients with premature ventricular complexes (PVC). However research on outcomes following AI-guidance for VT ablation specifically in patients with structural disease and prior myocardial infarction remains sparse.
