The state of Minnesota currently has 44 active clinical trials seeking participants for Diabetes research studies. These trials are conducted in various cities, including Minneapolis, Rochester, Saint Paul and Duluth.
Diabetes in African Youth
Recruiting
This RCT aims to improve T1D care in East African children and young adults by testing the hypothesis that enabling patients to continuously monitor glucose levels with flash CGM technology will improve glucose time-in-range (glucose level 70-180 mg/dl). A second primary endpoint is to perform a cost analysis on flash glucose monitoring compared to 3x/day SMBG, to determine whether this technology is cost-effective in the setting of a less-resourced nation. After a 2 week assessment with blinde... Read More

Study of Enterra Programming with Nocturnal Cycling in Gastroparetics
Recruiting
The purpose of this research study is to evaluate if different Enterra® device programming methods active during sleeping hours can maintain gastroparesis-related symptom relief and quality of life measures. Participants in this study with existing Enterra® devices will be randomly assigned to one of three programming methods that will be active during sleep. Participants will answer daily questions about their gastroparesis symptoms on an application with their phone/tablet. Participants will... Read More

Comparison of Type 2 Diabetes Pharmacotherapy Regimens
Recruiting
This study is designed to help patients with type 2 diabetes and their clinicians: (a) identify which glucose lowering medications have the most favorable effects on heart health and other patient-important outcomes, (b) inform the timing of medication initiation, and (c) identify whether medication benefits apply equally to all adults with type 2 diabetes, or may be different based on age, sex, race/ethnicity, baseline heart health status, baseline renal function, or other factors.

Insulin and Insulin Pulses During Fasting
Recruiting
Fasting hyperglycemia contributes disproportionately to nonenzymatic glycosylation and the microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes. However, little is known about the regulation of glucose concentrations in the fasting state relative to what is known about the postprandial state. The proposed experiment is part of a series of experiments designed to establish how glucagon and insulin interact with their receptors to control fasting glucose in health and in prediabetes.

Sex Differences in the effecTs of brEaking uP Sedentary Behavior on vascUlar Function in Type 2 Diabetes
Recruiting
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) confers a high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), particularly among older adults who tend to be physically inactive. Prolonged sedentary behavior (SB) has been shown to negatively influence markers of cardiovascular risk (e.g., blood glucose, blood pressure), even among individuals who are physically active. Most studies that have examined the effects of breaking up SB have focused on young healthy males and prioritized glycemic outcomes. Additionally, sex differences i... Read More

Collection of Blood From Healthy Patients, Patients With Benign Disease and Patients With Cancer
Recruiting
To acquire blood samples from subjects for various purposes, including: i) determining the sensitivity and specificity of select DNA methylation markers for the detection of various types of cancer, ii) identifying benign conditions that may induce false positive or false negative results, and iii) defining the effects of potential interfering substances, such as chemotherapy drugs.

PREvention of CardIovascular and DiabEtic kidNey Disease in Type 2 Diabetes
Recruiting
PRECIDENTD is a randomized, open label, pragmatic clinical trial designed to compare rates of the total number of cardiovascular, kidney, and death events among two alternative treatments for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and either established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) or at high risk for ASCVD. To accomplish this objective, we will randomly assign 6,000 patients with established T2D and ASCVD or high-risk for ASCVD in a 1:1 allocation to sodium-glucose cotransporter-... Read More
