This clinical trial investigates the effect of non-chemotherapeutic interventions in patients with multiple myeloma or MDS. Non-chemotherapeutic interventions such as physical activity and nutritional interventions (e.g., modifications in diet) have been shown to positively affect the immune system and improve overall quality of life. Another purpose of this study is for researchers to learn how the addition of a beta-blocker (propranolol) to the standard treatment regimen in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma affects immune response and quality of life. A study from the Mayo Clinic looked at multiple myeloma patients who were on a beta-blocker while undergoing chemotherapy and found that the use of a beta-blocker resulted in improved patient survival outcomes. Non-chemotherapeutic treatment options may help decrease symptoms and improve quality of life for patients with multiple myeloma. Read Less

Children with asthma from communities that experience health inequities frequently do not receive guideline-based asthma care, and as a result, account for a disproportionate percentage of asthma exacerbations, emergency department visits, and hospitalizations. Project ASTHMA (Aligning with Schools To Help Manage Asthma) tests the effectiveness of school-based health centers as a delivery model to improve health outcomes by providing children with guideline-based asthma assessments and preventive medication management, directly observed therapy of their preventive medication to support adherence, and self-management support. If successful, this multicomponent intervention will represent a cost effective and sustainable model to reduce asthma morbidity in historically marginalized communities, and has the potential to impact communities throughout the United States where over 2,500 school-based health centers operate. ADNI3 continues the previously funded ADNI-1, ADNI-GO, and ADNI-2 studies that have been combined public/private collaborations between academia and industry to determine the relationships between the clinical, cognitive, imaging, genetic and biochemical biomarker characteristics of the entire spectrum of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The purpose of this clinical trial is to learn about the safety, pharmacokinetics (pharmacokinetics helps us understand how the drug is changed and eliminated from your body after you take it), and efficacy (how well a study treatment works in the study) of the study medicine (called nirmatrelvir/ritonavir) for potential treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The EPPIC (Easing Pelvic Pain Interventions Clinical Research Program) study evaluates an ultra-brief, 4 session cognitive behavioral pain treatment transdiagnostic in design for urologic chronic pain syndrome (UCPPS) with clinical and practical advantages over existing behavioral therapies whose length and focus limits their adoption by clinicians and coverage for mechanistically similar comorbidities. A theoretically informed, practical, empirically grounded approach will systematically unpack CBT's working mechanisms, clarify for whom it works, ease dissemination, appeal to patients, providers, payers, and policy makers in the COVID-19 era favoring low resource intensity treatments, and reduce cost and inefficiencies associated with high intensity therapies whose complexity, length, and scarcity restricts uptake and impact. This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase 2/3 study comparing the efficacy and safety of elenestinib (BLU-263) + best supportive care (BSC) with placebo + BSC in patients with indolent systemic mastocytosis (ISM) whose symptoms are not adequately controlled by BSC. Parts 1 and 2 will enroll patients with ISM. Patients enrolled in Part 1 or Part 2 will roll over onto Part 3 to receive treatment with elenestinib in an open-label fashion following completion of the earlier Part. Part M will enroll patients with monoclonal mast cell activation syndrome (mMCAS). Part S will enroll participants with smoldering systemic mastocytosis (SSM). In the USA, about 10% of grown-ups have a hard time finding healthy food, like fruits and vegetables. It's even harder for older grown-ups who might be sick and find it tricky to move around, which makes it tough to get healthy food. The investigators are trying to fix this by testing two new ways to help older people (aged 65 and up) get nutritious food. The investigators are getting lots of help and ideas from older adults to make these ways work the best they can. The study is happening at the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) in the East Side of Buffalo, NY, where many African Americans live. This place hasn't been treated fairly, so there aren't many places to buy fresh fruits and vegetables in the local stores. On the ECMC campus, there are three clinics that can help people who can't easily get healthy food. Every participant in our study will be put into one of three programs, each lasting 12 weeks, and they will get food every week. In the "usual care" program, a doctor writes an order, and the participant gets a voucher to buy more fruits and vegetables at a market or store. In the "delivery of a produce prescription box" program, a box of fruits and vegetables is brought to the participant's home. The participant can pick what they like online or by calling a helper. If they don't pick, they get a regular box. In the "delivery of a meal kit box" program, the participant gets the ingredients for three meals in a box. The participant can pick three meals they like online or by calling. If the participant doesn't pick, three meals will be chosen for the participant. For the second and third programs, participants will get messages to remind the participant when to choose their food, when the time to choose is almost up, and when their food is on its way. If a participant can't use messages or the internet, they can call a helper for support. The investigators believe the study will show that these ways can help older adults who have a hard time getting food to eat more fruits and vegetables. This phase II trial studies how well OBI-3424 works in treating patients with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia that has come back (relapsed) or does not response to treatment (refractory). Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as OBI-3424, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading.
