Cisplatin Treatment Options in Minnesota

This randomized phase III trial is studying how well standard-dose radiation therapy works compared to reduced-dose radiation therapy in children 3-7 years of age AND how well standard volume boost radiation therapy works compared to smaller volume boost radiation therapy when given together with chemotherapy in treating young patients who have undergone surgery for newly diagnosed standard-risk medulloblastoma. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as vincristine, cisplatin, lomustine, and cyclophosphamide, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving radiation therapy with chemotherapy after surgery may kill any remaining tumor cells. It is not yet known whether standard-dose radiation therapy is more effective than reduced-dose radiation therapy when given together with chemotherapy after surgery in treating young patients with medulloblastoma. This phase II trial studies the effects of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in treating patients with pancreatic cancer that has spread to the internal abdominal area (peritoneal metastasis). Chemotherapy drugs, such as nab-paclitaxel and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. HIPEC involves "heated" chemotherapy that is placed directly in the abdomen through laparoscopic instruments, instead of through an intravenous injection. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel, cisplatin, and carboplatin work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells and shrink tumors. Giving chemotherapy before surgery and radiation therapy may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed and treated with radiation. Read Less

This is a phase 1 study designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and antitumor activity of FT825 (also known as ONO-8250) with or without monoclonal antibody therapy following chemotherapy in participants with advanced human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive or other advanced solid tumors. Single arm study of induction durvalumab (1500 mg IV) for 1 cycle (every 4 weeks), administered prior to starting concurrent definitive chemoradiation, followed by consolidation durvalumab (1500 mg IV every 4 weeks) for up to 12 cycles. The study will include an initial safety run-in portion. Patients in the safety run-in will be monitored through completion of induction durvalumab, chemoradiation, and 2 cycles of consolidation durvalumab for assessment of safety prior to completion of enrollment. Pembrolizumab is a type of immunotherapy that stimulates the body's immune system to fight cancer cells. Pembrolizumab targets and blocks a protein called PD-1 on the surface of certain immune cells called T-cells. Blocking PD-1 triggers the T-cells to find and kill cancer cells. Radiation therapy uses high-powered rays to kill cancer cells. This phase III trial compares the effect of adding nivolumab to the usual chemotherapy (cisplatin or carboplatin with gemcitabine) versus standard chemotherapy alone in treating patients with nasopharyngeal cancer that has come back (recurrent) or spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. This trial will evaluate the safety and efficacy of pembrolizumab (MK-3475) in combination with platinum doublet neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) before surgery \[neoadjuvant phase\], followed by pembrolizumab alone after surgery \[adjuvant phase\] in participants with resectable stage II, IIIA, and resectable IIIB (T3-4N2) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The primary hypotheses of this study are that neoadjuvant pembrolizumab (vs. placebo) in combination with NAC, followed by surgery and adjuvant pembrolizumab (vs. placebo) will improve: 1) event free survival (EFS) by biopsy assessed by local pathologist or by investigator-assessed imaging using Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors Version 1.1 (RECIST 1.1); and 2) overall survival (OS). RATIONALE: In this study a combination of anti-cancer drugs (chemotherapy) is used to treat brain tumors in young children. Using chemotherapy gives the brain more time to develop before radiation is given. The chemotherapy in this study includes the drug methotrexate. This drug was an important part of the two clinical trials which resulted in the best survival results for children less than 3 years of age with medulloblastoma. Most patients treated on this trial will also receive radiation which is carefully targeted to the area of the tumor. This type of radiation (focal conformal or proton beam radiotherapy) may result in fewer problems with thinking and learning than radiation to the whole brain and spinal cord. Patients with pleural mesothelioma (PM) that cannot be surgically removed will receive standard chemotherapy (cisplatin or carboplatin and pemetrexed) given with durvalumab, a type of immunotherapy, or a treatment chosen by the study doctor, which is either standard chemotherapy or immunotherapy combination (ipilimumab and nivolumab). Durvalumab is an antibody (a type of human protein) that works by blocking a body substance called Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1). Blocking PD-L1 helps the body's immune system attack cancer cells. Research has shown that durvalumab can slow tumor growth and shrink tumors in some people with cancer. Previous studies of combining durvalumab and chemotherapy showed that this combination is active in advanced mesothelioma. The purpose of this study is to see whether adding durvalumab to standard chemotherapy will improve overall survival (OS) in patients with PM. Read Less
