RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. It is not yet known whether chemotherapy is more effective with or without radiation therapy in treating patients who have rhabdomyosarcoma. This is a phase 2, two-arm, non-randomized, open-label, multicenter study evaluating the safety and efficacy of 2 VELCADE-containing regimens. Patients will be treated with either a combination of VELCADE, rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and prednisone (VELCADE-R-CAP) or a combination of VELCADE, rituximab, cyclophosphamide, and prednisone (VELCADE-R-CP) based on investigator preference. Patients with stage II-III breast cancer who do not achieve a pathologic complete response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy at the time of surgery will be treated with oral low dose continuous cyclophosphamide and methotrexate (CM) in combination with aspirin following surgery and radiotherapy.
