Paclitaxel Treatment Options in Colorado

This randomized phase III trial studies the side effects of paclitaxel when given together with cisplatin or topotecan with or without bevacizumab and to compare how well they work in treating patients with stage IVB, cervical cancer that has come back or is persistent. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel, cisplatin, and topotecan, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. This study will investigate the combination of two drugs, trametinib and nab-paclitaxel, in patients with advanced unresectable or metastatic melanoma. Each drug has shown activity in trials of patients with melanoma. However, the combination of these two drugs has not been studied. In this trial the investigators will determine the maximum dose of the drug combination to be administered to patients with advanced unresectable or metastatic melanoma and examine the safety profile of the drug combination. RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether receiving combined carboplatin and paclitaxel plus continued low-dose paclitaxel is more effective than carboplatin and paclitaxel alone for early-stage ovarian cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying carboplatin and paclitaxel alone too see how well they work compared to carboplatin and paclitaxel together with continued low-dose paclitaxel in treating patients with early-stage ovarian cancer. This randomized phase III trial studies pelvic radiation therapy to see how well it works compared with vaginal implant radiation therapy, paclitaxel, and carboplatin in treating patients with high-risk stage I or stage II endometrial cancer. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Implant radiation therapy uses radioactive material placed directly into or near a tumor to kill tumor cells. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the combination of nab-paclitaxel and gemcitabine. People with primary metastatic pancreatic cancer will be treated with nab-paclitaxel and gemcitabine in combination with an investigational agent called necuparanib (M402). It is made from heparin, which is a well known blood thinner. Blood thinners have been shown in prior animal and human studies to have anti-cancer effects. Necuparanib has been re-engineered from heparin to have much lower blood thinning activity while keeping the anti-tumor activity. The investigators are testing whether necuparanib administered in combination with nab-paclitaxel and gemcitabine may be more effective than nab-paclitaxel and gemcitabine. Read Less
