The objectives of this study are to compare the anti-tumor activity as measured by Progression Free Survival (PFS) and tolerability of Sorafenib in combination with Paclitaxel and Carboplatin versus Paclitaxel and Carboplatin in combination with placebo in subjects with unresectable Stage III or Stage IV melanoma who progressed after receiving only one prior therapy containing Dacarbazine (DTIC) or Temozolomide (TMZ). RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. It is not yet known whether giving paclitaxel for a shorter period of time is as effective as a standard course of treatment for advanced ovarian cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of paclitaxel given for 3 months with that of paclitaxel given for 12 months in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer. Primary Objectives: o Run-in Phase: Determine a dose of EP-100 at which the initial benefit/risk of paclitaxel combined with EP-100 can be studied. o Randomized Phase: Compare the anti-tumor effects of EP-100 combined with weekly paclitaxel versus paclitaxel alone in patients with ovarian cancer. This randomized phase III trial is studying carboplatin, paclitaxel, radiation therapy, and thalidomide to see how well they work compared to carboplatin, paclitaxel, and radiation therapy alone in treating patients with newly diagnosed stage III non-small cell lung cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Thalidomide may stop the growth of non-small cell lung cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor. RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Nab-paclitaxel (paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation) may make tumor cells more sensitive to radiation therapy. Giving nab-paclitaxel together with radiation therapy and carboplatin may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving nab-paclitaxel together with carboplatin and radiation therapy and to see how well it works in treating patients with stage III non-small-cell lung cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. We will evaluate the feasibility, toxicity, and effectiveness of combination chemotherapy (paclitaxel/carboplatin)plus combination targeted therapy (bevacizumab/erlotinib)in the first line treatment of patients with carcinoma of unknown primary site. There is limited experience with either bevacizumab or erlotinib in the treatment of cancers of unknown site but given the heterogeneous nature of the tumor, it is likely that inhibition of angiogenesis pathways and/or the EGFR pathway are effective strategies in at least a proportion.
