Paclitaxel Treatment Options in Massachusetts

The purpose of this study is to find out what effect the postoperative combination of therapies: trastuzumab (herceptin) and paclitaxel (taxol) will have on breast cancer recurrence. A combination of trastuzuamb and chemotherapy has been used in women with node positive and high risk node negative disease. This tests utilizes a well tolerated regimen of weekly paclitaxel and trastuzumab in women with T1, node negative tumors that are HER2 positive. We would like to determine how effective this drug combination is when used in women with early stage breast cancer, as well as to better define the side effects of this treatment. Read Less

This randomized phase III trial studies how well doxorubicin hydrochloride and cyclophosphamide followed by paclitaxel with or without carboplatin work in treating patients with triple-negative breast cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as doxorubicin hydrochloride, cyclophosphamide, paclitaxel, and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. It is not yet known whether doxorubicin hydrochloride and cyclophosphamide is more effective when followed by paclitaxel alone or paclitaxel and carboplatin in treating triple-negative breast cancer. This research study involves implanting up to 4 microdevices, each small enough to fit inside the tip of a needle, into a tumor. These devices will release microdoses (many thousands of times less than a treatment dose) of different cancer drugs into the tumor. After approximately 72 hours, the devices and small regions of surrounding tissue will be removed and studied.
