Randomized Clinical Trial (RCT): Prospective, randomized, active-controlled, single blind, parallel two-arm multi-center clinical trial in the United States (US) comparing XIENCE V® Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System (CSS) (2.5, 3.0, 3.5 mm diameter stents) to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved commercially available active control TAXUS® EXPRESS2™ Paclitaxel Eluting Coronary Stent (TAXUS® EXPRESS2™ PECS) System 2. US 2.25 mm non-randomized arm using 2.25 mm diameter XIENCE V® Everolimus Eluting CSS 3. US 4.0 mm non-randomized arm using 4.0 mm diameter XIENCE V® Everolimus Eluting CSS 4. US 38 mm non-randomized arm using 38 mm in length XIENCE V® Everolimus Eluting CSS 5. The primary objective of this study will be to determine the progression free survival of patients with stage IIIb/IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with dual agent monoclonal antibody therapy consisting of cetuximab and bevacizumab in combination with two different regimens of paclitaxel and carboplatin chemotherapy. Improvements in therapy for relapsed SCLC are much needed. Paclitaxel has been previously tested and found to have significant single agent activity in relapsed SCLC, including in refractory patients. Angiogenesis plays an important role in SCLC, increased VEGF levels are associated with worse outcomes. Bevacizumab, a monoclonal antibody to VEGF, increase response rates and survival when combined with chemotherapy agents compared with the chemotherapy agent alone in NSCLC, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer. Paclitaxel plus bevacizumab, in the dose and schedule proposed in this study, improves response rates and progression free survival compared with paclitaxel alone in women with metastatic breast cancer. This is a phase III randomized study comparing induction treatments of Gemcitabine and Carboplatin versus Paclitaxel and Carboplatin, with or without consolidation therapy for patients that do not have any evidence of disease after completion of six cycles of induction therapy.
