Paclitaxel Treatment Options in New Jersey

This study was originally designed as a Phase III randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study to assess the safety and tolerability, and efficacy of paclitaxel plus trastuzumab plus lapatinib compared with paclitaxel plus trastuzumab plus placebo in women with ErbB2 overexpressing metastatic breast cancer. The planned study was a two stage design with an initial open-label safety stage to be conducted in approximately 65 subjects followed by a randomized phase conducted in a further 700 subjects. The open-label part of the study sequentially enrolled three cohorts with patients receiving a different dose combination of paclitaxel, trastuzumab and lapatinib. This phase II trial studies how well pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride and carboplatin followed by surgery and paclitaxel work in treating patients with stage II-III breast cancer that does not have estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, or large amounts of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)/neu protein (triple negative). Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride, carboplatin, and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride and carboplatin before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride and carboplatin followed by surgery and paclitaxel may be an effective treatment for breast cancer. Read Less

The purpose of this study is to examine the combination of one standard treatment for lung cancer plus an additional drug, hydroxychloroquine. The standard treatment for lung cancer being used includes 2 chemotherapy drugs, called paclitaxel and carboplatin. Some patients who have a specific type of lung cancer can also receive another drug, a drug that targets blood vessels, called bevacizumab (also known as avastin). Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether combination chemotherapy is more effective than gemcitabine hydrochloride and paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation before surgery in treating pancreatic cancer.
