The study will evaluate the effectiveness of ixabepilone when given after doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide (AC) compared to standard treatment of paclitaxel given after doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide in patients with early stage breast cancer. The purpose of this study is to give a drug regimen that is hoped to be effective in preventing cancer from coming back. Since it is an aggressive breast cancer, there is a moderate to high chance that the cancer may come back. The standard treatment for this tumor type includes a chemotherapy regimen with drugs named epirubicin (E) and cyclophosphamide (C) in a vein every 2 weeks for 4 treatments, followed by a drug named paclitaxel, every 2 weeks in your vein for 4 treatments. This study is an experimental study in which you will be given 6 cycles of EC followed by 6 cycles of paclitaxel. The purpose of getting 2 more cycles of EC and 2 more cycles of paclitaxel than what is normally given is to study a regimen that may be more effective than the current standard treatment in preventing the recurrence of this cancer. The purpose of this study is to test whether it is safe to treat your cancer with 3 drugs instead of 2 drugs. After surgery, your cancer is typically treated with 2 drugs called cisplatin and paclitaxel (also known as Taxol). Cisplatin is given through a port in your belly, and Taxol is given both through the belly port and through the vein (IV). Large clinical studies have shown that this treatment gives the best results for women with your cancer. This treatment, however, also causes many side effects, especially belly pain, nerve injury, lowering of the immune system, and infection risk. In the study you are being asked to join, the dose of Cisplatin will be lower in order to try to lessen these problems. This study will also test the safety of adding a 3rd drug called bevacizumab (also known as Avastin). This drug has been shown to shrink ovarian, peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer in some patients who have advanced disease, despite having received prior treatment for their cancer. Therefore, it may also be effective in patients, like you, who have a new diagnosis. Unfortunately, Avastin can cause some dangerous side effects in women with advanced cancer. For instance, it can cause a hole in the intestines, and can increase the risk of blood clots and strokes. Avastin has not been given at the same time as IP therapy, so it is not known if this is a safe or effective combination. In this study, IV Avastin will be given in addition to IP cisplatin, IP Taxol, and IV Taxol, to patients like you who have not had any chemotherapy before. The purpose of this study is to determine the percentage of patients with non-small cell lung cancer that will experience a shrinkage of their tumors following treatment with three medications given together: paclitaxel, pemetrexed (Alimta®), and bevacizumab (Avastin®). Each of these medications has been approved by the FDA for patients that have not received any treatment for their lung cancer. This study is designed to study the effects of all three drugs given at the same time. Each of these medications has been studied in lung cancer and is commercially available. Paclitaxel and pemetrexed are traditional chemotherapy drugs. Bevacizumab is a monoclonal antibody, which means that it attaches to a specific target. Bevacizumab attaches to a protein in the blood stream called Vascular Endothelial GrowthFactor (VEGF). VEGF helps tumors grow new blood vessels to feed themselves, and bevacizumab is thought to help block this new growth of blood vessels and starve the tumors of the nutrients they need. Read Less
