RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Epoetin alfa may stimulate red blood cell production and prevent or treat anemia in patients who are undergoing radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This is a prospective phase II study designed to evaluate an accelerated and adaptive RT approach for locally-advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). All eligible subjects will have an interim PET-CT during radiation therapy to determine the metabolic complete response rate.
