Paclitaxel Treatment Options in Utah

This randomized phase III trial studies carboplatin, paclitaxel, and bevacizumab to see how well they work compared to carboplatin, paclitaxel, and placebo in treating patients with stage III or stage IV ovarian epithelial, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. This randomized phase III trial studies pelvic radiation therapy to see how well it works compared with vaginal implant radiation therapy, paclitaxel, and carboplatin in treating patients with high-risk stage I or stage II endometrial cancer. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Implant radiation therapy uses radioactive material placed directly into or near a tumor to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. It is not yet known whether pelvic radiation therapy alone is more effective than vaginal implant radiation therapy, paclitaxel, and carboplatin in treating patients with endometrial cancer. This study is investigating the effects of an experimental drug (neratinib) in combination with paclitaxel versus trastuzumab in combination with paclitaxel for the treatment of women who have not received previous treatment for erbB-2-positive locally recurrent or metastatic breast cancer. The study will compare the effectiveness of each regimen in shrinking tumors and extending the lives of women with erbB-2 (HER2) positive breast cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as gemcitabine hydrochloride and nab-paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing or by stopping them from spreading. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs, such as capecitabine, may make tumor cells more sensitive to radiation therapy. Giving radiation therapy in different ways and adding chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. This phase II trial studies the side effects of giving intensity-modulated radiation therapy together with cisplatin and bevacizumab followed by carboplatin and cisplatin and to see how well they work in treating patients who have undergone surgery for high-risk endometrial cancer. Specialized radiation therapy that delivers a high dose of radiation directly to the tumor may kill more tumor cells and cause less damage to normal tissue. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, carboplatin, and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. The purpose of this clinical trial is to test whether treatment of patients with advanced or metastatic solid tumors or breast cancer with Abraxane plus Vidaza is safe and results in good tumor response. All patients enrolling in this study will receive treatment with Abraxane and Vidaza. Safety will be assessed by adverse events, laboratory results and performance status. Colony-stimulating factors, such as pegfilgrastim, may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help the immune system recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some find tumor cells and kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Others interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Bevacizumab may also may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving these treatments before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. It is not yet known which treatment regimen is more effective in treating women with breast cancer. The purpose of this clinical trial is to test whether treatment of patients with breast cancer with the combination of Abraxane (nab-paclitaxel), Adriamycin (doxorubicin), and Cyclophosphamide prior to surgery is safe and results in good tumor response. Up to 24 patients may be enrolled in this study at the Mitchell Cancer Institute.
