Semaglutide Treatment Options in Indianapolis, IN

Semaglutide is a medicine studied in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), as it may improve liver damage. Participants will either get semaglutide or placebo (a dummy medicine) - which treatment participants get is decided by chance. The study will last for about 61 weeks in total. Participants will have 10 clinic visits and 3 phone calls with the study doctor or staff during the study. Some of the clinic visits may be spread over more days. Participants will need to inject themselves with medicine under the skin. Participants will have to do this once a week for 48 weeks. The study includes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the liver, 1 or 2 liver tissue samples, ultrasound scans of the stomach and a possible examination of the food pipe. For some tests participants may need to remove some items of clothing. Participants will stop in the study if the doctor thinks that there are any risks for their health. The information collected from participants during the study may help them and other patients with NASH in the future. This study will look at participants' body weight from the start to the end of the study. The study will last for about 1½ years. This is to compare the effect on body weight in people taking semaglutide once a week or people taking liraglutide once every day. Participants will either get semaglutide, liraglutide or "dummy" medicine. Which treatment is decided by chance. Participants who receive semaglutide or semaglutide "dummy" medicine will need to take 1 injection once a week. Participants who receive liraglutide or liraglutide "dummy" medicine will need to take 1 injection once daily. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in a skin fold in the stomach, thigh or upper arm. During the study participants will have talks with study staff about eating healthy food and how to be more physically active. Participants will have 16 clinic visits and 7 phone calls with the study doctor. At 4 of the clinic visits participants cannot eat and drink (water is allowed) for 8 hours before the visit. This study compares the effect and safety of 2 dose schedules for semaglutide (study medicine) in people with type 2 diabetes previously treated with a diabetes medicine similar to semaglutide. The study will also evaluate the use of a new pen-injector for semaglutide used to inject medicine under the skin, at a new dose of 2 mg. People taking part in the study will take this medicine together with their current diabetes tablets other than semaglutide. Participants will either get a start dose of 0.25 mg semaglutide or 0.50 mg semaglutide, and the dose will be gradually increased to 2.0 mg semaglutide - which treatment is decided by chance. Participants will inject semaglutide under the skin once a week, any time of the day. When the dose reaches 2.0 mg semaglutide, participants will inject the medicine with a new type of pen-injector. The study will last for about 24 weeks. Participants will have 9 visits and 1 phone call with the study doctor. At 9 visits participants will have blood taken and at 2 visits they will have eye examination done. Women cannot take part if pregnant, breast-feeding or planning to become pregnant during the study period. Women who are able to get pregnant will be checked 10 times for pregnancy via urine tests. This study will look at the change in participants' body weight from the start to the end of the study. The weight loss in participants taking semaglutide (a new medicine) will be compared to the weight loss of participants taking "dummy" medicine. In addition to taking the medicine, participants will have talks with study staff about healthy food choices, how to be more physically active and what you can do to lose weight. Participants will either get semaglutide or "dummy" medicine - which treatment participants get, is decided by chance. Participants will need to take 1 injection once a week. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in a skin fold in the stomach, thigh or upper arm. The study has two phases: A main phase and an extension phase.The main phase will last for about 1.5 years. Participants will have 15 clinic visits and 10 phone calls with the study doctor. Extension phase: Approximately 300 participants will continue in the extension phase in the following countries only: Canada, Germany, the UK and selected sites in the US and Japan. These participants will be in the study for about 2.5 years.They will not receive treatment, but will attend another 5 follow-up visits with the study doctor. Read Less
