Semaglutide Treatment Options in Maryland

The purpose of this study is to find out if PF-07081532 ("the active study drug"), is safe and helps treat people with obesity without diabetes to lose weight, and people with diabetes to keep their blood sugar in good control. Individuals diagnosed with diabetes that are on metformin or individuals with obesity without diabetes will be included in the study. Those participating in the diabetes part of the study, will receive either active study drug, placebo, or an approved treatment called Rybelsus. Those in the obesity part of the study, will receive either active study drug or placebo. The study will last for about 36 weeks except for the first 25% of the participants that enter in which case the study will last for approximately 48 weeks. during this time there will be visits every 4 weeks with phone calls in between. This study looks at how well a new medicine called cagrilintide works together with semaglutide on blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes compared to cagrilintide alone or semaglutide alone. Before a new medicine can be prescribed to people it needs to be tested to see if it is safe and effective. Participants will either get cagrilintide and semaglutide together or cagrilintide and a dummy medicine or semaglutide and a dummy medicine. Which treatment participants get is decided by chance. A dummy medicine (placebo) looks like the study medicine but does not contain any active medicine. The dummy medicine is in the study to see if the study medicine works as expected. Participants will get 2 injections per week on the same day. Participants will take the study medicine with a pen. A pen is a medical tool with a needle used for injections under the skin. The study doctor or staff will show how. The study will last for about 39 weeks. Participants will have 12 visits at the clinic and 5 phone calls with the study doctor. At 6 of the clinic visits participants must not eat and drink for 8 hours before the visit (water is allowed). Women who can become pregnant cannot take part in this study. Semaglutide is a medicine studied in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), as it may improve liver damage. Participants will either get semaglutide or placebo (a dummy medicine) - which treatment participants get is decided by chance. The study will last for about 61 weeks in total. Participants will have 10 clinic visits and 3 phone calls with the study doctor or staff during the study. Some of the clinic visits may be spread over more days. Participants will need to inject themselves with medicine under the skin. Participants will have to do this once a week for 48 weeks. The study includes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the liver, 1 or 2 liver tissue samples, ultrasound scans of the stomach and a possible examination of the food pipe. For some tests participants may need to remove some items of clothing. Participants will stop in the study if the doctor thinks that there are any risks for their health. The information collected from participants during the study may help them and other patients with NASH in the future. This study will look at the change in teenagers' body weight from the start to the end of the study. This is to compare the effect on body weight in teenagers taking semaglutide (a new medicine) and teenagers taking "dummy" medicine. The teenagers in the study and their parents will also have talks with study staff about healthy food choices, how to be more physically active and what they can do to help the teenagers lose weight. The teenagers will either get semaglutide or "dummy" medicine - which treatment is decided by chance. The teenagers will take 1 injection every week, on the same day of the week for about 15 months. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in a skin fold in the stomach, thigh or upper arm. The teenagers will have 17 clinic visits, will have blood samples taken and will have to complete questionnaires and keep a diary. All this will be explained before study start. Read Less

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of a drug called semaglutide and to see whether it can reduce IHTG. IHTG will be measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; an MRI machine contains a powerful magnet that uses simple radio waves to take pictures of organs). Semaglutide (brand name Ozempic®) is a drug that is used to treat people who have diabetes; it also causes weight loss and may provide some protection against cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
