Semaglutide Treatment Options in North Dakota

This study will look at how well semaglutide helps children and teenagers losing weight. This will be tested by comparing the effect on body weight in children and teenagers taking semaglutide in comparison to placebo, a "dummy" medicine. In addition to taking the medicine, the child's parent and the child will have talks with study staff about healthy food choices, how to be more physically active and what your child can do to try to lose weight. The child will either get semaglutide or a "dummy" medicine. Which treatment the child will get is decided by chance. Semaglutide is an approved medicine for type 2 diabetes and weight management in adults. The child will get one injection once a week. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in the stomach, thighs or upper arms. The study will last for about 2 ½ years (132 weeks). Read Less

This study compares how three doses of semaglutide work in participants with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and overweight who are taking metformin. The study will look mainly at how well participant's blood sugar and participant's body weight are controlled when they are taking the study medicine at different doses. Participants will either get semaglutide \[2 milligrams (mg), 8 mg, or 16 mg\] or semaglutide placebo (a dummy medicine). Participants will take the study medicine with an injection pen called NovoPen®4. The injection pen is a medical tool with a needle used to inject the study medicine under the skin. The main purpose of this study is to compare the effects of semaglutide (Ozempic®) with the effects of other treatments for type 2 diabetes in a normal practice setting. The participant will be assigned by chance (like flipping a coin) to one of the following treatment groups: Group 1: semaglutide (Ozempic®) (by injection into skin) Group 2: standard of care antidiabetic medication (oral or injectable). The participant has an equal chance of being in either of the treatment groups. Neither the participant nor the study doctor or study staff will be able to pick which group the participant is in, but the participant will know which study drug the participant has been assigned to. The study doctor will provide the participant with a prescription for the study diabetes medication based on the treatment group the participant is assigned. This study will look at the change in teenagers' body weight from the start to the end of the study. This is to compare the effect on body weight in teenagers taking semaglutide (a new medicine) and teenagers taking "dummy" medicine. The teenagers in the study and their parents will also have talks with study staff about healthy food choices, how to be more physically active and what they can do to help the teenagers lose weight. The teenagers will either get semaglutide or "dummy" medicine - which treatment is decided by chance. The teenagers will take 1 injection every week, on the same day of the week for about 15 months. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in a skin fold in the stomach, thigh or upper arm. The teenagers will have 17 clinic visits, will have blood samples taken and will have to complete questionnaires and keep a diary. All this will be explained before study start. Read Less

This study is open to adults with type 2 diabetes who take metformin but still have too high blood sugar. The purpose of the study is to find the best dose of BI 456906 that reduces blood sugar. The study also looks at whether BI 456906 helps the participants lose weight. Participants are in the study for about 23 weeks. During this time, most participants visit the study site about 13 times. Some participants visit the study site about 20 times. At the start of the study, the participants are put into 7 groups. The participants in groups 1 to 6 get injections under the skin once or twice every week. Some participants get different doses of BI 456906 and other participants get placebo. Placebo injections look like the BI 456906 injections, but contain no medicine. Participants in group 7 get semaglutide injections every week. Semaglutide is another medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes. During the study, the doctors regularly take blood samples from the participants and measure their body weight.
