Semaglutide Treatment Options in Ohio

The purpose of this study is to find out if PF-07081532 ("the active study drug"), is safe and helps treat people with obesity without diabetes to lose weight, and people with diabetes to keep their blood sugar in good control. Individuals diagnosed with diabetes that are on metformin or individuals with obesity without diabetes will be included in the study. Those participating in the diabetes part of the study, will receive either active study drug, placebo, or an approved treatment called Rybelsus. Those in the obesity part of the study, will receive either active study drug or placebo. The study will last for about 36 weeks except for the first 25% of the participants that enter in which case the study will last for approximately 48 weeks. during this time there will be visits every 4 weeks with phone calls in between. The main purpose of this study is to compare the effects of semaglutide (Ozempic®) with the effects of other treatments for type 2 diabetes in a normal practice setting. The participant will be assigned by chance (like flipping a coin) to one of the following treatment groups: Group 1: semaglutide (Ozempic®) (by injection into skin) Group 2: standard of care antidiabetic medication (oral or injectable). The participant has an equal chance of being in either of the treatment groups. Neither the participant nor the study doctor or study staff will be able to pick which group the participant is in, but the participant will know which study drug the participant has been assigned to. The study doctor will provide the participant with a prescription for the study diabetes medication based on the treatment group the participant is assigned. This is a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial designed to assess the effect of the GLP-1 receptor agonist, semaglutide, on visceral and ectopic fat, insulin resistance, inflammation markers, and the downstream effect of cardiovascular risk in people with HIV. The primary endpoints will be visceral and ectopic fat changes over the study period. This study will look at the change in teenagers' body weight from the start to the end of the study. This is to compare the effect on body weight in teenagers taking semaglutide (a new medicine) and teenagers taking "dummy" medicine. The teenagers in the study and their parents will also have talks with study staff about healthy food choices, how to be more physically active and what they can do to help the teenagers lose weight. The teenagers will either get semaglutide or "dummy" medicine - which treatment is decided by chance. The teenagers will take 1 injection every week, on the same day of the week for about 15 months. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in a skin fold in the stomach, thigh or upper arm. The teenagers will have 17 clinic visits, will have blood samples taken and will have to complete questionnaires and keep a diary. All this will be explained before study start. Read Less

This study compares the effect of two doses of semaglutide (1.0 mg and 2.0 mg) in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). People taking part in the study will take the medicine together with their current diabetes medicine (sulphonylurea and/or metformin). Participants will get a dose of either 1.0 mg or 2.0 mg semaglutide once a week - which dose is decided by chance. Participants will inject semaglutide under the skin once a week. The study will last for about 49 weeks. Participants will have 9 clinic visits and 2 phone calls with the study doctor. At the visits participants will have blood taken and eye tests done. Women cannot take part if pregnant, breast-feeding or planning to become pregnant during the study period. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of a drug called semaglutide and to see whether it can reduce IHTG. IHTG will be measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; an MRI machine contains a powerful magnet that uses simple radio waves to take pictures of organs). Semaglutide (brand name Ozempic®) is a drug that is used to treat people who have diabetes; it also causes weight loss and may provide some protection against cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
