Semaglutide Treatment Options in Houston, TX

This study will look at how much CagriSema helps people with type 2 diabetes lower their blood sugar and body weight. CagriSema is a new investigational medicine. Doctors may not yet prescribe CagriSema. CagriSema will be compared to a "dummy" medicine (also called "placebo") that has no effect on the body. Participant will get either CagriSema or "dummy" medicine and which treatment they get is decided by chance. Participant will take the study medicine together with their current diabetes medicine (once-daily insulin with or without metformin). For each participant, the study will last for about one year. This study will look at how well CagriSema helps people living with obesity to lose weight and maintain the weight loss long-term. The study has 2 parts: The first part is called 'the main study' and the second part is called 'the extension study'. In the main study participants will either get CagriSema (a study medicine) or placebo (a dummy medicine that looks like CagriSema but has no active ingredient). Which treatment participants get is decided by chance. Participants are two times more likely to get CagriSema than placebo. If participants get CagriSema in the main study, participants will continue on CagriSema in the extension study. Which dose of CagriSema participants will continue on is decided by chance. If participants get placebo in the main study, participants will get CagriSema in the extension study. Participants will take one injection of study medicine once a week. Semaglutide is a medicine studied in patients with NASH. Semaglutide is a well-known medicine, which is already used by doctors to treat type 2 diabetes in many countries. Participants will either get semaglutide or a dummy medicine - which treatment participants get is decided by chance. Participants will need to inject themselves with medicine under the skin. Participants will need to do this once a week. The study will last for about 5 years. Participants will have up to 21 clinic visits and 9 phone calls with the clinical staff during the study. Some of the clinic visits may be spread over more than one day. Participants with other chronic liver diseases cannot take part in this study. At 10 of the clinic visits participants will have blood samples taken. Participants must have a study partner, who is willing to take part in the study. Women cannot take part if pregnant, breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant during the study period. A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sub-study will be performed as a part of the study. The sub-study will be performed on a selection of sites based on their experience with CSF sampling and willingness to participate in this sub-study. We are doing this study to learn more about how semaglutide may help fight chronic kidney disease in people with type 2 diabetes. We are doing this by looking into how semaglutide works in the kidneys. Participants will either get semaglutide or placebo (a 'dummy' medicine) - which treatment participants get is decided by chance. Semaglutide is a medicine doctors can prescribe in some countries for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Participants will get the study medicine in a pen. Participants will use the pen to inject the medicine into the skin once a week. The study will last for about 1 year. Participants will have 11 visits to the clinic, and 2 phone visits. Some of the visits could be in different locations. Study staff will take blood samples at most of these visits. At 9 visits, participants will be asked to bring a sample of their first morning urine. At 4 of the visits participants will have to bring urine that they have collected over the last 24 hours. The study includes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of participants' kidneys which is a test that shows a detailed picture of organs and other parts inside the body.
