Prevention of Postop Atrial Fibrillation Through Intraoperative Inducibility of Atrial Fibrillation and Amiodarone Treatment
Recruiting
Patients undergoing first time cardiac surgery will undergo rapid atrial pacing prior to initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass to screen for AF inducibility. Patients with inducible AF will be randomized to prophylactic amiodarone treatment versus no treatment. Patients who are not inducible to AF will be treated with standard post-operative care. Patients will be monitored post-operatively to explore the value of intraoperative inducibility of AF to predict POAF and to evaluate whether the combi... Read More

The Youth Opioid Recovery Support (YORS) Intervention
Recruiting
Youth are disproportionately affected by the current opioid crisis with catastrophic consequences, and young adults with opioid use disorder (OUD) often struggle with adherence to relapse prevention medications. The Youth Opioid Recovery Support (YORS) model is a promising, innovative, wrap-around approach that addresses barriers to medication adherence and treatment engagement in an effort to improve public health outcomes in this vulnerable young adult population. This study seeks to refine th... Read More

IV Iron vs Oral Iron for Treatment of Anemia in Women With Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
Recruiting
This study investigates whether intravenous (IV) iron \[Feraheme (ferumoxytol) injection)\] is a better treatment than oral iron pills (ferrous sulfate) for correcting anemia in women who have heavy menstrual bleeding and anemia. Investigators will study whether women's blood counts respond better, respond more quickly, and if women prefer the IV treatment or the oral treatment. Women who have heavy menstrual bleeding and anemia will be randomly assigned to receive treatment with either oral iro... Read More

RiLuzole to Reduce Atrial FIb Study Using Holter Monitoring
Recruiting
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a growing clinical problem.1 AF is a highly dynamic condition involving episodes of sinus rhythm interspersed with periods of arrhythmia, becoming more difficult to terminate over time. AF carries a substantial cost, morbidity and mortality burden. There are two important approaches to the management of AF: 1). Controlling ventricular response rate without attempting to terminate or prevent AF (rate control), and 2). Attempting to control and maintain sinus rhythm (rh... Read More

Advanced Spatiomotor Rehabilitation for Navigation in Blindness & Visual Impairment
Recruiting
One of the most challenging tasks for blind and visually impaired individuals is navigation through a complex environment. The goal of the present multidisciplinary study is to increase spatial-cognition abilities in people who are blind or visually impaired through training with the previously-developed Cognitive-Kinesthetic Rehabilitation Training to improve navigation, and to investigate the resultant neuroplastic brain reorganization through multimodal brain imaging.

SilverBills: A Financial and Legal Tech Tool for Caregivers
Recruiting
Financial and legal management for persons with dementia (PwD) is a crucial responsibility of caregivers. This responsibility adds to the stress and strain of caregiving. Screening for Atrial Fibrillation in Patients With Cancer: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
Recruiting
Patients with cancer have a higher incidence of AF but despite the higher incidence of AF in the cancer population, there are no randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for AF screening in this population. RCTs of AF screening in the general population have shown that screening can effectively detect AF earlier, and helps to identify candidates for appropriate anticoagulation that may lead to improvement in clinical outcomes.
