Increasing Lean Protein Intake in Preschool-age Children and Assessing Effects on Cognition and Select Health Outcomes
Recruiting
The proposed project addresses the goal of exploring preschooler's ability to recognize changes in feelings of hunger/satiety based on consuming a snack and a meal (lunch/dinner) that are either based on the usual childcare center fare (control) or are based on lean meats (intervention), which will have a lower glycemic index.

Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Network (PPHNet) Informatics Registry
Recruiting
Patients are being asked to be in this research study because medical researchers hope that by gathering information about a large number of children with pulmonary hypertension over time, their understanding of the disease process will increase and lead to better treatment. Investigators believe that pulmonary hypertension in children is different than pulmonary hypertension in adults and this study will help us understand those differences.

Deep Brain Stimulation in Treatment Resistant Schizophrenia
Recruiting
The purpose of this pilot study is to investigate the use of deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNr) in subjects with treatment-resistant schizophrenia. There is a subset of patients with schizophrenia who continue to have persistent psychotic symptoms (auditory hallucinations and delusions) despite multiple adequate medication trials with antipsychotic medications including clozapine. There are currently no available treatments for such patients who generally... Read More

Computerized Registry of Patients With Venous Thromboembolism (RIETE)
Recruiting
The Computerized Registry of Patients with Venous Thromboembolism (RIETE) is a multidisciplinary Project initiated in march 2001 and consisting in obtaining an extensive data registry of consecutive patients with venous thromboembolism. The main objective is to provide information on the Internet to help physicians to improve their knowledge on the natural history of thromboembolic disease, particularly in those subgroups of patients who are usually not recruited in randomized clinical trials (... Postprandial Nutrient Homeostasis Before and After Weight Loss Induced by Low-calorie Diet or RYGB
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to compare the metabolic responses to low-carbohydrate and standard-carbohydrate meals in African Americans and non-Hispanic White adults with obesity and the effect of weight loss induced by low-calorie diet (LCD) or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on the metabolic responses to low-carbohydrate and standard meals. Participants will consume: 1) a standard-carbohydrate meal (\~49 g glucose) and 2) a low-carbohydrate (\~3.4 g glucose) meal on separate study visits perf... Read More

Older Breast Cancer Patients: Risk for Cognitive Decline
Recruiting
The goal of this study is to evaluate the impact of systemic therapy on cognition in older breast cancer patients, explore change in APE, LM and Cognition domains, measure associations between cognitive decline and QOL, and describe how genetic polymorphisms, inflammatory biomarkers, sleep and physical measures moderate cognitive outcomes. This study is being done nationally, with recruiting sites at Georgetown University, Montgomery General Hospital, Virginia Cancer Specialists, Washington Hosp... Read More

Response Assessment in SB CD
Recruiting
The small bowel (SB) is involved in \~70% of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). There is an unmet need for accurate and clinically meaningful methods to measure small bowel Crohn's Disease (SBCD) activity. This is particularly relevant as the field moves towards "treat-to-target" management strategies. The overall objective of this proposal is to establish that radiologic transmural response (TR) and a novel proteomic biomarker are accurate and clinically meaningful predictors of SBCD inflammat... Efficacy Bioinductive Implant for Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
Recruiting
The investigators are testing the efficacy of a new, FDA-approved bioinductive patch in lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) patients. A bioinductive patch is an implant that may foster tendon regrowth and healing following surgery. Patients will be randomize into one of two groups: control and investigational. Patients in the "control group" will receive the normal surgery for patients who do not respond to physical therapy, lifestyle changes, and anti-inflammatory treatment. Patients in the "e... MDR - PMCF Study for Taperloc Complete Stems
Recruiting
The objective of this consecutive series PMCF study is to collect data confirming safety, performance, and clinical benefits of the Taperloc Complete stems when used for primary or revision total hip arthroplasty (implants) at 1,3,5,7 and 10-year follow-up\*. Since Taperloc Complete was introduced to the EU in 2010, all available retrospective data will be collected from each patient and a prospective aspect to the study will be necessary to reach the 10-year time point.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Chemosensitivity and SUDEP
Recruiting
The purpose of this research study is to better understand what causes Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). This study will enroll subjects from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and Epilepsy Clinics. The investigators will analyze the effects of seizures on breathing, on the cardiovascular system, and on arousal. The investigators are studying these effects because some cases of SUDEP might be due, in part, to an inability to wake up or s... Read More
