The goal of the current project is to combine two evidence- based treatments for school-aged children with ADHD: Central Executive Training (CET) and Behavioral Parent Training (BPT). CET is a computerized training intervention that improves ADHD symptoms and academic functioning by improving children's working memory abilities. BPT is a therapeutic intervention that improves family functioning and child oppositional-defiant (ODD) symptoms by changing parenting behaviors. Their combined use is expected to provide complementary and additive benefits, particularly if CET is delivered before BPT. Read Less

The purpose of this research study is to study the effects of dance movement and music on memory and cardiorespiratory fitness in older adults who are concerned about memory loss. The study aims to determine the optimal number of movement or music appreciation classes a week to support brain health and fitness. Participants will be people 65 years or older who are concerned about their memory, but do not yet have a diagnosis of cognitive impairment. If a participant is deemed qualified to participate, he/she will be placed into one of four groups and will attend 1, 2, or 3 group or music appreciation classes per week for 24 weeks (6 months). In addition to attending the group classes, participants will be asked to complete at least four study visits at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to complete various clinical assessments, including a brain MRI. Bloodstream infections (BSI) caused by bacteria translocating across injured oral mucosa are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation (SCT). Unfortunately, there are currently no known strategies to prevent these BSI in this vulnerable population. The investigators will conduct a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial at three institutions to evaluate the effectiveness of twice daily intraoral xylitol-wipe application on reducing BSI in pediatric SCT patients. The goal of this clinical trial is to compare soy isoflavones to placebo in children who at risk of asthma and have a genetic variation which results in them making more of a pro-inflammatory protein, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1. The main questions this trail seeks to answer is: will soy isoflavones decrease the proportion of infants with aT2 high endotype at the end of treatment, and secondarily decrease the number of wheezing episodes in these children when given in the first year of life. Participants will be asked to ingest soy isoflavone or placebo twice daily mixed into a liquid or puree vehicle for 7 months from randomization. There will be 3 mandatory in-person visits, and 6 virtual visits in the first year. There will also be 11 monthly questionnaires and 1 in person visit in the observation year. Participants will have 4 nasal swabs, 3 blood draws, and also provide 4 stool samples over the course of the study. Read Less

Many human diseases are characterized by their ability to alter existing metabolic pathways and interrupt cellular processes. Cancer exploits the Warburg effect and utilizes greater glucose than normal cells and within this process uses anaerobic respiration, leading to increased conversion of pyruvate to lactate. This can be exploited by hyperpolarized imaging. Hyperpolarized 13C MRI imaging is an approach that utilizes a stable isotope of Carbon (13C) linked to pyruvate. MRI spectroscopy is used in conjunction with hyperpolarized 13C pyruvate in order to temporally detect pyruvate and its conversion to lactate in-vivo, in order to visualize downstream metabolic (glycolytic) activity secondary to the Warburg effect, which should be useful in detecting and characterizing tumors of various types. Hyperpolarized 13C pyruvate MR imaging has not been tested in most cancers. In this preliminary survey, we will test the hypothesis that hyperpolarized 13C pyruvate MR imaging can be used to image various cancers. Read Less
