Snoring is a common problem caused by vibration of tissues in the throat region during sleep. Although snoring is sometimes dismissed as a minor nuisance rather than a medical disorder, several studies indicate that snoring can disrupt sleep quality of the snorer, as well as the snorer's bed partner. Snoring also might lead to problems such as dry mouth, bad breath, dental problems, and even cardiovascular disease. Current treatments for snoring include lifestyle modifications such as weight loss, side-sleeping, and avoidance of evening alcohol intake. In some cases, invasive surgeries, dental devices, or even CPAP are recommended for snoring. These interventions have mixed effectiveness and may be difficult to use. It may be possible to treat snoring by fostering nasal breathing, while avoiding mouth-breathing during sleep. Breathing through the mouth reduces the airway diameter and contributes to snoring. Several studies show that nasal breathing can reduce snoring volume and improve airflow. Recent studies have shown that covering the mouth during sleep with adhesive patches or tape can improve snoring volume without adverse effects. However, these studies were performed in a small number of patients and did not fully measure the impact of the intervention on sleep quality, sleep architecture, or the experience of the bed partner, who is often the overlooked "victim" of the snoring. In this interventional study, the investigators will examine the safety and efficacy of mouth tape for snoring, focusing on subjective and objective snoring/breathing metrics of both the snorer and bed partner. Snoring is sometimes also a sign of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). If OSA is ruled out with a sleep study, patients are considered to have "simple" snoring. When OSA is mild (apnea hypopnea index 15), treatments can include the same interventions as snoring (e.g. weight loss, avoidance of alcohol, side-sleeping) or can be more aggressively treated with devices such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). CPAP may be challenging to use, expensive, and associated with side effects such as mouth dryness and skin irritation. Alternative, inexpensive, and well-tolerated interventions are needed for mild OSA. For this reason, the investigators include patients with snoring and mild OSA in this study. Read Less

This study aims to investigate the impact of various healthy diets, specifically a modified plant-based Mediterranean diet, on the gut microbiome and overall well-being post-colonoscopy. The investigators hypothesize that certain diets can positively influence gut bacteria, reducing inflammation and enhancing metabolic signals. To explore this, they will utilize metagenomic testing on stool samples to analyze the DNA of gut microorganisms. Additionally, they will conduct immune profiling on serum samples and perform metabolomic analysis to comprehensively evaluate the diet-induced changes in immune response and metabolic pathways. This phase II trial compares the effect of folate receptor alpha dendritic cells (FRαDCs) to placebo in treating patients with stage III or IV ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer. FRαDCs, a dendritic cell vaccine, is made from a person's white blood cells. The white blood cells are treated in the laboratory to make dendritic cells (a type of immune cell) mixed with folate receptor alpha (FRalpha), a protein found in high levels on ovarian tumor cells. FRαDCs work by boosting the immune system to recognize and destroy the tumor cells by targeting the FRalpha protein on the tumor cell. Placebo is an inactive substance that looks the same as, and is given the same way as, the active drug or treatment being tested. The effects of the active drug are compared to the effects of the placebo. Giving FRαDCs may work better in preventing or delaying recurrence compared to placebo in patients with stage III or IV ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer. Read Less

Some patients may experience persistent pain in the front of their shoulder after reverse shoulder replacement. One of the possible reasons for this is that the surgery causes a change in the alignment of the shoulder joint, which may cause increased tension and compression on one of the biceps tendon called the conjoint tendon. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether conjoint tendon lengthening, a surgical procedure that involves cutting and lengthening the conjoint tendon in order to reduce tension and compression, is able to prevent or reduce the risk of anterior shoulder pain at one year after surgery. This research aims to identify communication strategies to improve the uptake of vaccines using an experimental design, focusing on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which is highly effective in preventing HPV-related cancers. However, low HPV vaccination rates among adults remain a significant public health challenge. Although randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated that interventions can increase vaccine uptake in children, few RCTs have been conducted on adults. To address this gap, a multidisciplinary investigative team with expertise in communication, medicine, nursing, and behavior-change intervention research, and a history of extensive collaboration, will conduct a survey experiment on a national sample of over 3,689 adults to identify the most promising theory-based messages to strengthen HPV vaccine intentions. The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether home-based transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is safe and practical for people aged 40 to 70 years with Parkinson's Disease. The study aims to find out if participants can use the tDCS device at home without serious side effects and whether it is easy for them to use on their own. Participants will first attend an in-person visit to learn how to use the tDCS device. They will then use the device at home once a day for 20 minutes over seven consecutive days. Video calls on days 2 and 3 will provide support and supervision. After each session, participants will complete brief online questionnaires about any side effects and how easy the device was to use. The study will also check if using tDCS at home improves motor symptoms in Parkinson's Disease by using a standard movement assessment. Read Less
