The 1200 Patients Project: Studying the Implementation of Clinical Pharmacogenomic Testing
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to collect DNA samples from patients undergoing routine care at the University of Chicago. These samples will be tested for differences in genes that may suggest greater risk of side effects or chance of increased benefit from certain medications. The results will be made available to the patient's treating physician and the researchers will track whether or not this information is used in routine health care.

Hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI for Imaging Pulmonary Function
Recruiting
The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the usefulness of MRI using 129Xe gas for regional assessment of pulmonary function. Specifically, three forms of 129Xe MRI contrast will be the investigators focus - 1) imaging of the 129Xe ventilation distribution, 2) imaging the alveolar microstructure via the 129Xe apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), and 3) imaging 129Xe that dissolves in the pulmonary blood and tissues upon inhalation. Such imaging of 129Xe gas transfer is expected to b... Read More

Intensity Modulated Total Marrow Irradiation, Fludarabine Phosphate, and Melphalan in Treating Patients With Relapsed Hematologic Cancers Undergoing a Second Donor Stem Cell Transplant
Recruiting
This phase I trial studies the side effects and the best dose of intensity modulated total marrow irradiation (IMTMI) when given together with fludarabine phosphate and melphalan in treating patients with cancers of the blood (hematologic) that have returned after a period of improvement (relapsed) undergoing a second donor stem cell transplant. IMTMI is a type of radiation therapy to the bone marrow that may be less toxic and may also reduce the chances of cancer to return. Giving fludarabine p... Read More

Selumetinib and Azacitidine in High Risk Chronic Blood Cancers
Recruiting
This is a phase I, open-label, dose-escalation study to determine the MTD of selumetinib when combined with the standard dose of azacitidine. Treatment will begin within 28 days of screening procedures. Treatment will continue indefinitely, provided that the patient continues to derive benefit. A patient will be taken off study for reasons described in detail in section 3.12 including disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, inter-current illness, withdrawal of consent, or at the discretion o... Gene Therapy Trial for Platelet Derived Factor VIII Production in Hemophilia a
Recruiting
This is a Phase I study. This research study is being conducted to find new ways to treat severe hemophilia A. This study is a gene therapy study. Gene therapy is an experimental way to introduce, into a person's cells, specific genetic material. A gene can be delivered/introduced into a cell using a carrier known as a "vector." In this study, a virus (lentivirus), the "vector", is used to introduce or deliver a gene that creates and stores a protein Factor VIII (FVIII) in your platelets. These... Read More
