This is a double-blind, randomized phase 3 multicenter placebo-controlled study in at least 16 evaluable male participants diagnosed with MCT8 deficiency. Male participants, from 4 years of age (at randomization) and having demonstrated stable maintenance treatment with tiratricol, will be randomized to receive placebo or tiratricol for 30 days or until reaching rescue criterion (serum total triiodothyronine \[T3\] \> upper limit of normal \[ULN\] of the participant's normal range, for a sample collected during the 30-day Randomized Treatment Period). The research hypothesis to be tested is that, for participants in the placebo group, removal of tiratricol will lead to an increase of serum total T3 concentration, measured by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS), above the ULN and requirement of rescue treatment with tiratricol, compared to those who continue to receive tiratricol. The purpose of this clinical study is to learn more about celiac disease pathogenesis and clinical symptoms. In particular, this study will examine the interactions between biological factors such as, intestinal epithelial cells, microbiota, immune system, genetics, and gluten and their effect on celiac disease clinical symptoms, and severity of tissue destruction and its ability to heal in individuals with celiac disease. To collect and preserve glioblastoma tissue during standard of care tumor resection surgery and blood for future molecular and genetic testing. Tissue for research will be collected from three different regions within the same tumor to study how these regions differ in their structure, DNA, and RNA and also to compare the data obtained from this testing to imaging data found in the medical record. The goal of this study is to help us better understand what the glioblastoma tumor tissue looks like and how it functions. This understanding can lead to new therapies for the treatment of glioblastoma in the future. Read Less

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the effects of high blood glucose levels in the brain and assess if the changes seen in individuals with poorly control T2DM can be reversed with good glucose control. The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the impact of providing participants with 1. A recently developed protocol for motivating bystanders to intervene to help others who are in sexual risk situations (Motivate-the-Bystander) alone 2. Motivate-the-Bystander with an alcohol component focused on reducing drinking behaviors (Motivate-the-Bystander+Alcohol) 3. A control condition focused on reducing stress The main questions it aims to answer are: * Is Motivate-the-Bystander more effective than the attention control for increasing bystander behaviors? * Is Motivate-the-Bystander+Alcohol more effective than MTB alone for increasing bystander behaviors? * Is Motivate-the-Bystander+Alcohol more effective than Motivate-the-Bystander alone for decreasing alcohol use during bystander intervention opportunities? Participants will: * Complete online measures (e.g., self-reported bystander behaviors, past bystander training, history of bystander intervention attempts, sexual experiences, drinking behaviors, and other substance use behaviors) * Complete either MTB, MTB+ALC, or the attention control condition online * Complete the virtual reality simulation in the lab * Complete electronic daily diary follow-up surveys about alcohol use and bystander intervention Read Less

The purpose of this study, entitled "Delivering Transcutaneous Auricular Neurostimulation as an Adjunct Non-Opioid Pain Management Therapy for Patients Undergoing Lumbar Fusion Surgery", is to demonstrate whether transcutaneous auricular neurostimulation (tAN) can non-invasively reduce the perception of pain in patients undergoing lumbar fusion surgery. tAN is placed on and around the ear to non-invasively stimulate branches of the vagus and trigeminal nerves and modulate specific brain regions associated with pain. The investigators aim to conduct a prospective surveillance study of mothers and their infants born vaginally or by scheduled C-section and who are admitted to Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women's Hospital to determine the prevalence of ESBL-E carriage in healthy post-partum women and the transmission rate of these strains to their infants. Using whole genome sequencing and a comparative genomics approach the investigators will determine the relatedness of strains among mother-infant dyads as well as identify genetic regions common to transmitted strains. It is hypothesize that; 1) given the diverse population of Chicago there will be a significant rate of gut colonization with ESBL-E among mothers admitted to Prentice, 2) ESBL-E strains isolated from neonates will be identical to those from their mothers and 3) genetic determinants of transmission are conserved across ESBL E. coli strains that are perinatally transmitted. These hypotheses will be tested using the following Aims: Aim 1: Determine the prevalence of ESBL-E gut colonization and rate of perinatal transmission among mother-infant dyads Aim 2: Identify genetic determinants of transmission common to ESBL E. coli that are perinatally transmitted. The long-term goal is to understand the unique features of persistent gut and vaginal ESBL-E colonizers and identify genetic and molecular elements that could be attractive therapeutic targets to decrease the burden of ESBL-E colonization and perinatal transmission. Post-operative pain and lower urinary tract symptoms are common following ureteroscopy in the treatment of stone disease. The use of bupivacaine as a topical pain medication is used routinely for other urologic procedures, however, to date there are no studies that have rigorously investigated the effect of instilling bupivacaine in the bladder following ureteroscopy. This is a randomized study that will investigate the effect of instilling bupivacaine in the bladder following routine ureteroscopy, laser lithotripsy and ureteral stenting in the treatment of stone disease. Compared to a placebo of Normal Saline, our study hypothesizes that administration of topical bupivacaine in the bladder will decrease post-operative pain and lower urinary tract symptoms while improving quality of life in the early post-operative period.
