This is a randomized, parallel-group study designed to explore the differences between cannabis intoxication, alcohol intoxication and co-intoxication involving both alcohol and cannabis, utilizing electroencephalography (EEG) as well as more traditional intoxication measures such as breath alcohol concentration and balance metrics. If eligible for the study, participants will be randomized to complete one study session in our mobile laboratory, during which they will use either alcohol, cannabis (which will be self-administered, ad libitum) or both alcohol and cannabis. This is a randomized (1:1) placebo-controlled clinical trial to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of 30-day application of NEUROCUPLE™ patch for pain reduction and opioid consumption following TKA. Results will establish NEUROCUPLE™ as an effective non-opioid postoperative pain management device for FDA approval. Importantly, we have a placebo device (device without the captor array layer) that looks exactly like the active device, allowing us to conduct a true placebo randomized study. Read Less

This study will examine sleep disordered breathing and sleep quality in participants (ages 12-18) diagnosed with sickle cell disease of any genotype. We will utilize remote peripheral arterial tonometry (PAT) and questionnaires to evaluate difficulties with sleep. PAT assessments will occur remotely in the homes of participants. Neurocognitive, behavioral, and neuroimaging evaluations will occur on the same day as a routine clinic visit. Primary Objective: Evaluate the relationship between nocturnal oxyhemoglobin saturation (SpO2) and neurocognitive functioning (working memory and verbal comprehension) in children (ages 12-18) diagnosed with sickle cell disease controlling for age, genotype, and social vulnerability. Secondary Objective: Assess differences in white matter integrity, silent cerebral infarcts, neuroinflammation, and functional connectivity among children (ages 12-18) diagnosed with sickle cell disease with and without sleep disordered breathing after controlling for age. Assess differences in self- and caregiver-reported mood and pain severity among children (ages 12-18) diagnosed with sickle cell disease with and without sleep disordered breathing after controlling for age. Exploratory Objectives: Explore the relationship between nocturnal oxyhemoglobin saturation (SpO2) and neurocognitive functioning (attention, processing speed, verbal memory, visual memory, motor dexterity) in children (ages 12-18) diagnosed with sickle cell disease controlling for age, genotype, and social vulnerability. Assess the feasibility of an ultraportable ring oximeter (BodimetricsCircul+ Ring) in children (ages 12-18) diagnosed with sickle cell disease. This study evaluates an investigational scan called hyperpolarized carbon-13 pyruvate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in assessing treatment response in patients with pancreatic ductal carcinoma (PDA) that has spread to nearby tissue or lymph nodes (locally advanced) or that has spread from where it first started (primary site) to other places in the body (metastatic). MRI is a standard scan that helps doctors see tumors, organs, tissue, and bone. Standard contrast agents (e.g., gadolinium) are sometimes used to help make the scan images brighter, or easier to see. Hyperpolarized carbon-13 pyruvate is an experimental contrast agent that is different from standard MRI contrast in that it provides information on how a tumor processes nutrients. Hyperpolarized carbon-13 pyruvate MRI scans may work better than MRI with standard contrast agents in predicting how PDA tumors respond to treatment. Read Less

The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effectiveness and implementation of delivering Enhanced Brief Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-B), an evidence-based maternal depression treatment, to mothers of children aged 4-11 years in an urban pediatric asthma clinic. Researchers will compare Enhanced IPT-B and supplemented usual care (brief care coordination). The main questions the trial aims to answer are: 1. Does Enhanced IPT-B decrease maternal depressive symptoms? 2. Does Enhanced IPT-B improve child asthma management and health outcomes (exacerbations, symptoms, control)? 3. What are the preliminary implementation outcomes of delivering Enhanced IPT-B in an urban pediatric asthma clinic? Read Less

Sports science testing by investigators at Gatorade Sports Science Institute has revealed that many athletes arrive at practice with a high urine specific gravity indicating they are hypohydrated. Though the data showed that most athletes don't lose more than 2% of their body weight in sweat during a training session, it is not known what the cumulative effects of living and training in a hot environment are over the course of a week. Previous research has indicated that prescribing fluid intake is more effective than education in improving drinking behavior during exercise. No studies to date have compared the impact of fluid intake prescription versus education in adolescent boys and girls playing outdoor and indoor sports. Comparing sexes and training environment may provide more clarity around potential barriers and challenges to proper hydration for each environment. Read Less

The goal of this project is to test our central hypothesis that the spinal cord neuroplasticity in females will be modulated by the level of estradiol concentration. under aim 1 we will determine the influence of estradiol fluctuations on spinal circuit excitability post afferent (sensory) mediated subthreshold motor priming in young healthy females and males. We will use an established repetitive peripheral nerve electrical stimulation with a stimulation intensity below the motor threshold to prime the spinal motor circuits. under aim 2 we seek to characterize the input output property of spinal circuit excitability after descending drive (motor) mediated priming in young healthy male participants. in aim 3 we will examine the influence of estradiol fluctuations on descending drive mediated motor priming in young healthy females.
