Building Resilient Families
Recruiting
Prior research suggests that it is possible to improve health outcomes in children with ACEs through multi-component interventions. The challenge for most communities is that health and education systems are fragmented and fail to accommodate families based upon different levels of need. This study utilizes cross-sectoral partnerships to mobilize three vectors (pediatricians, community health workers and parenting educators) to optimize the delivery of vital information and resources to a divers... The PREDICTOR Study: Assessing Diagnostic Predictors of Airway Collapse in Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Recruiting
This study is an exploratory, multicenter study of up to 300 subjects diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea who are being evaluated for airway surgery. Subjects will undergo standard evaluation for airway surgery as part of standard of care. In addition to the standard airway assessment, a simple, non-invasive measurement of the width of the inside of each subjects mouth will be performed. This measurement takes 2-3 minutes to perform.

Preventing the Development of Chronic Pain: Treating PTSD at Acute Pain Onset
Recruiting
Although most people recover from acute pain (such as pain caused by injury, surgery, repetitive motion, or unknown causes), many people do not fully recover and will experience chronic pain. Untreated posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) appears to be a key risk factor for the transition from acute pain to chronic pain. However, few published studies have addressed the issue of preventing the transition from acute to chronic pain via PTSD reduction. This project will aim to test whether trauma-... Read More

Parametric Response Mapping (PRM) for the Detection of Chronic Lung Injury in Hematopoietic Cell Transplant Recipients
Recruiting
The study will have two separate patient cohorts: Cohort 1 will include patients with newly diagnosed chronic graft versus host disease (GVHD), whereas cohort 2 will include patients with newly diagnosed chronic lung disease (CLD). For cohort 1, the primary objective will be to characterize PRM metrics at the onset of chronic GVHD and determine if a PRM signature is present that will predict 1-year CLD free survival. For cohort 2, the primary objective will focus on characterizing PRM at the ons... Read More

Oxytocin Rest to Reduce Cesarean Delivery
Recruiting
Prolonged labor is usually managed with continuous oxytocin infusion. "Oxytocin rest" has been proposed as a strategy to resolve protracted labor in patients who have received continuous oxytocin without progress. This strategy involves discontinuing oxytocin then restarting infusion after a period of time, under the theory that washout of the oxytocin receptor will strengthen uterine contractions to improve labor progress. "Oxytocin rest" is performed on labor and delivery units across the Unit... Read More

High Fructose Diet, the Gut Microbiome, and Metabolic Health
Recruiting
Americans commonly consume excess amounts of dietary fructose. Added fructose has been shown to have an adverse impact on metabolic health, including increased insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) risk. However, the mechanisms that link dietary fructose and metabolic health are poorly understood. Malabsorption or incomplete metabolism of fructose in the small intestine is common in the population. Excess fructose reaches the colon where it may change the structure and function of the gut... Read More

The Acute and Accumulative Effects of Snack Foods on Exercise Recovery
Recruiting
The purpose of the research is two-fold. One goal is to determine if post-exercise almond or cereal bar consumption can promote muscle gain as well as increasing muscular strength throughout an eight-week weight training program. The other goal is to assess the short-term effects of almonds or cereal bar on recovery that may explain the overall long-term adaptations.
