The overall goal of this protocol is to investigate \[18F\]DPA-714 binding in prodromal and early manifest Parkinson's Disease (PD) and to determine the baseline and change from baseline in \[18F\]DPA-714 binding in PD participants during a 24-month interval. Primary Objectives * To compare \[18F\]DPA-714 binding in prodromal and manifest PD and healthy volunteers. * To determine the longitudinal change in \[18F\]DPA-714 during a 24-month interval for prodromal and early initially untreated PD participants. The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of peripheral neuropathy on fall risk and quality of life in people who had cancer and neuropathy from cancer treatments. The investigators are interested to find out if the participant have any difficulty with thinking, feeling, balancing, or moving around that will contribute to risk for falls or quality of life. Investigators are also interested to see if the participants have any difficulty with doing two activities at the same time, such as walking and texting. Read Less

A single arm, prospective, single center Phase1/2 Dietary intervention trial for subjects diagnosed with colorectal cancer and scheduled for tumor resection more than 21 days from informed consent. Subjects will be provided 21 days of standardized High-fiber/low-fat meals and complete a food diary up until lunch on the day prior to surgery. Blood samples will be collected at baseline and on the day of surgery. Stool samples will be collected throughout the dietary intervention period at specific timepoints, on the day of surgery, and 30 days post-surgery. Tissue from the tumor resection will be isolated for organoid cultures. Subjects will be followed per standard of care for up to 5 years or disease recurrence, whichever comes first. Complementary medicine is recognized for its ability to enhance appetite, increase energy, reduce anxiety, decrease pain, and improve sleep, among many other benefits. Acupuncture is among the most frequent types of complementary medicine practiced in the US, and Medicare currently includes back pain as a reimbursable indication for this therapy. Acupuncture-related therapies may enhance efforts at prehabilitation in candidates for major lung resection. Read Less

This project will first examine nature opportunities, belonging and benefits with a multi-state nature-based intervention with a focus on students of color. In light of the syndemic, 'nature deficit disorder' and poor mental health, the investigators anticipate several far-reaching impacts that will (a) test a nationally useful standardized way to quantify exposure; (b) invest in nature resources and accessibility on campuses; and (c) promote the mental health and therapeutic benefits of nature among young adults. These will lead to understanding the nature exposure and mental health interplay and techniques for quantifying and encouraging nature exposure to treat the on-going youth mental health crisis. Including HBCUs and an hispanic-serving institution is expected to result in heightened visibility of underlying disparities, including structural racism and land-based violence and discrimination, that have contributed to current-day nature gaps and dismantled nature relationships for students of color. The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai will conduct a randomized controlled trial of a self-management support intervention for predominantly minoritized and low-income adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The trial will focus on comprehensive screening and targeted management of barriers to COPD control, incorporating home-based pulmonary rehabilitation and oral steroid and antibiotic prescribing for pre-emptive treatment of COPD exacerbations. The research team will compare this intervention with an attention control group to evaluate the effects on medication adherence, COPD symptoms, inhaler technique, physical activity and exercise capacity at 6 months, and at 12 months to examine sustainability of treatment effects. The research team will also examine hospitalizations and emergency department visits at 12 months. The study will recruit 300 participants from the Mount Sinai Health System in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, ensuring diverse representation. Health coaches from the VNS Health will deliver the intervention, guided by a detailed training manual. Weekly conference calls will address logistical and protocol-related issues. Read Less

This study plans to learn more about people who are sick in the hospital with a lung infection, or respiratory failure. Respiratory failure, or severe lung failure, is a life-threatening disease. When it happens, the lungs have trouble carrying out their normal function of getting oxygen into the blood, and removing carbon dioxide from the body. Investigators are conducting this study to see what drinking too much alcohol, using tobacco products, or using drugs (both legal and illegal) may do to lung infections and respiratory failure. Subjects are asked to be in this research study because they are thought to have a lung infection and may also have respiratory failure. Alcohol, tobacco, and drug use have been linked to lung infections, respiratory failure, and even death, but the reasons for this aren't known. People who use unhealthy amounts of alcohol, tobacco, and or drugs may be more at risk for lung infections, and for severe complications due to lung infection. Subject participation is important whether or not you use alcohol and or drugs. Read Less
