The Human Blood Cell Disorder Tissue Bank will provide a convenient, comprehensive source of tissue containing populations of human blood cells from patients with various types of lymphoid, myeloid, and erythroid proliferative diseases as well as other associated conditions. The tissue bank will continue to be an invaluable asset for understanding of the biology of multiple blood cell disorders involving several cell types as well as the physiology of normal cellular counterparts affected in these disorders. Internal and external investigators will be able to utilize this tissue to test hypotheses relating to the immunologic, virologic, genetic, and molecular properties of these abnormal cells as well as normal cells from normal unaffected family members or normal aged matched subjects to provide better comparisons. This study aims to show that lack of antibiotic prophylaxis to those undergoing bladder Botox injections is not significantly inferior to administering prophylaxis. By proving this, the investigators aim to decrease antibiotic use in this setting to combat the growing issue of antibiotic resistance. Participants will be randomized to antibiotic or no treatment arm. Those randomized to the treatment arm will receive oral antibiotics for 2 days pre-treatment, on the treatment day, and 2 days post-treatment. Participants will return for a follow up appointment approximately 2 weeks after treatment to assess for urinary tract infection (UTI) symptoms. They will be called again at 6 weeks for follow up. Pistachio nuts (Pistacia vera L.) are a nutrient- and energy-dense food, and are a significant source of 15 different micronutrients. In addition to an excellent micronutrient profile, pistachios are a good source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (linoleic acid, oleic acid, and plant sterols). Pistachios have the lowest amount of total fat, and the highest protein, fiber, and phytosterol content compared to other nuts. They possess a high antioxidant content. Specifically, pistachios have high amounts of lutein, zeaxanthin, and phenolic compounds (e.g., anthocyanins, flavonoids, and proanthocyanidins). These aforementioned compounds are known for their anti-inflammatory effects. Pistachios also have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and all-cause mortality. The purpose of this study will be to determine the effects of consuming 1.5 ounces of pistachios per day compared to consuming no pistachios per day on inflammatory markers (creatine kinase, C-reactive protein, cortisol, Interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, copper-zinc superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase concentrations) and lean body mass in women and men, 40 to 60 years of age, who have been recreationally active for at least six months (exercising three to five days per week). It is hypothesized that pistachio consumption will significantly lower inflammatory response and significantly increase lean body mass. This will be a randomized study where participants will first complete a two-week baseline run-in period during which they will consume their typical diet. Following this, participants will be randomized to one of two groups for six months: consuming 1.5 ounces of pistachios per day or a control group (consuming no pistachios). Those consuming pistachios will be in addition to their usual diet. The overall goal of this study is to evaluate the effects of pistachio consumption on inflammatory markers and lean body mass in women and men, 40 to 60 years of age, who exercise three to five days per week. This study could provide a simple, healthy way for recreationally active individuals to decrease inflammation and improve body composition. Read Less

The objective of this phase 2 study is to investigate the efficacy of Dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DEX) plus Methylprednisolone acetate (MPA) in combination with plain bupivacaine (B) compared with Liposomal Bupivacaine (LB) in combination with plain bupivacaine on post-surgical pain control among patients undergoing unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) to asses if perineural B-DEX-MPA will result in superior analgesia efficacy as compared to B-LB. This study will also assess if perineural B-DEX-MPA results in improved quality of postoperative recovery as compared to B-LB. Read Less
