The MyHeart Counts Cardiovascular Health Study will utilize mobile health capabilities of smartphones and wearables to assess daily activity measures of the general population and compare these to measures of cardiovascular health risk factors and fitness. How people divide their time among exercise, sedentary behavior, and sleep all affect cardiovascular health, yet to date these have largely gone unmeasured. With the advancement of phone sensors and wearable fitness tracking devices these factors are now more straightforward to gather and measure. The use of smartphones by a large segment of the population allows for data collection on an unprecedented scale. The investigators aim to amass activity and cardiovascular health data on thousands of participants as well as provide significantly more quantitative data on type,duration, and intensity of daily activities. In the second phase of the MyHeart Counts Cardiovascular Health Study (Randomized Assessment of Physical Activity Prompts In A Large Ambulatory Population) the researchers will conduct a randomized controlled clinical trial of four different physical activity prompts (intervention) and their effect on the level of physical activity in the study population as measured by change in step count. This study is being proposed to evaluate the use of moderate hypofractionated proton therapy in low and intermediate risk prostate cancer patients. Quality of life outcomes as well as gastrointestinal and genitourinary early and late toxicities will be analyzed and compared to conventional proton therapy regimens. It is thought that this regimen will produce comparable findings and would result in substantial health care cost savings, as well as, be more convenient for patients. Read Less

To test the feasibility of studying effects of smoking cessation with varenicline on antipsychotic drug-induced neurological side effects, we propose a 12 week pilot study of smoking cessation treatment with varenicline in 10 schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder patients who are actively smoking and have pre-existing TD while receiving stable doses of antipsychotics. Subjects will be followed after a 2 week baseline period to assess changes in smoking status and neurological symptoms using standardized rating scales. The aim is to examine clinically significant effects on antipsychotic-induced neurological side effects that may warrant further investigation. Read Less

The specific objective of this proposed research is to understand whether deficits in sleep-dependent memory changes reflect age-related changes in sleep, memory, or both. The central hypothesis is that changes in both memory and sleep contribute to age-related changes in sleep-dependent memory processing. Surgery is currently the only potentially curative treatment modality for localized retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS). Available studies regarding oncologic outcomes are mainly retrospective in nature, and RPS are recognized as a rare disease. Therefore, prospective analysis of high quality data is a top priority. Primary Objectives of this study are: to prospectively collect standardized clinical data and radiological and pathological material from primary RPS patients treated with surgery at reference centers. patient outcome will be evaluated in terms of overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), crude cumulative incidence (CCI) of local recurrence (LR) and distant metastasis (DM). Secondary Objectives: to estimate the efficacy and safety of surgical treatment, including extended surgical approach to primary RPS; to prospectively evaluate the impact of multimodality therapy, including radiation therapy and chemotherapy; to identify clinical, radiological and pathological characteristics that may influence the oncological outcome or may be used as predictors of LR/DM/OS. We propose to investigate effects of HP and HC weight loss diets in Newly Diagnosed T2DM (NT2DM) women and men for 6 months for remission of Type 2 Diabetes. Our long term goal is to establish a weight loss diet plan for remission of NT2DM which would be adaptable for use in physicians' clinics and metabolomics predictors for assessment of remission. The overall objective of this study is to determine if remission of NT2DM can be induced by dietary manipulation using a HP diet and the pathobiology of this remission. We hypothesize that NT2DM subjects will have remission to NGT on the HP diet when they are provided the food and daily menus for compliance. The rationale is the HP diet is palatable for subjects to continue after the 6 month study and stay in remission using diet plans we provide. We will compare the effects of the HP vs HC diet on remission. Specific aims of this study are to determine the effects of the HP and HC diets on NT2DM obese subjects in a 6 month feeding study and determine: (a)remission of NT2DM to Normal Glucose Tolerance(NGT), (b)weight loss, (c)improvements in metabolic markers, Cardiovascular Risk Factors(CVR), and inflammation markers, and epigenetic DNA methylation changes and pathways involved with remission and metabolomic markers to establish predictive markers of remission of NT2DM. We propose to use a non-pharmaceutical means (HP diet) for remission of T2DM and weight loss and determine the pathobiology involved in improvement in metabolic and CVRs by interrogating the samples with emerging technologies. The proposed research is significant because if we can demonstrate the HP diet cause remission of NT2DM to NGT along with other metabolic improvements, it would be a significant improvement in health risk and medical cost to subjects. Patients with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, are recommended to undergo treatment with tumor treating fields using the Optune device as part of standard of care therapy. While undergoing treatment, patients are monitored regularly with brain MRI scans to look for tumor progression, but there are currently no means to predict which, or when, patients will progress. The purpose of the current study is to prospectively analyze these MRI scans to look for subtle imaging markers that can predict for future brain tumor progression while undergoing tumor treating field therapy.
