Aphasia, or language impairment after a stroke, affects approximately 2 million people in the United States, with an estimated 180,000 new cases each year. The medical community cannot predict how well someone with aphasia will respond to treatment, as some people with aphasia are poor responders to intervention even when participating in empirically supported treatments. There is a strong likelihood that genetics play a role in language recovery after stroke, but very little research has been dedicated to investigating this link. This study will investigate whether two genes and cognitive abilities, such as memory, predict responsiveness to aphasia therapy for word-retrieval difficulties. Read Less

The aim of this study is to identify and determine the levels of oxidized lipids and lipid mediators following exposure to oxygen supplementation during mechanical ventilation by oxidative lipidomics. The investigators will include patients with mechanical ventilation and have received FiO2=\>0.5 atleast 90 minutes and collected two sequential mini bronchoalveolar lavage on them 24 hours apart. This pilot study aims to identify behavioral and neural measures of sensory processing and attention associated with routine occupational therapy intervention for children with autism spectrum disorders. Specifically, the investigator will examine the impact of a child's level of engagement during therapy using standardized behavioral and electroencephalography (EEG) measures of sensory processing. A scientific study is being done to test a special treatment for people who have spasticity or tight muscles. This treatment is called "stereotactic radiosurgery dorsal rhizotomy." It uses very accurate beams of radiation to target certain nerves in the back to help loosen up the muscles. In this study, people are put into two groups by chance: one group gets the real treatment, and the other group gets a "fake" treatment that doesn't do anything. This fake treatment is called a "sham." Doing this helps make sure the study is fair and the results are true. After the people in the study get their treatment, the researchers will watch and see how they do. They will check if their muscles are less stiff and if they have any side effects. By looking at the results from both groups, the researchers can find out if the special treatment really helps people with spasticity. The main objective of this study is to utilize Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) to determine tissue stiffness of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). For patients with AAA, MRE is a more sensitive and superior method of determining the risk for rupture of AAA based on stiffness estimates when compared to the current, crude method of assessing risk based on measurement of the diameter of the aneurysm. The investigators will also validate the stiffness estimates against gold standard i.e. mechanical testing and histopathology only AAA patients undergoing AAA surgery. Read Less

Magnetic resonance elastography is a novel non-invasive MRI technique to obtain stiffness of soft tissues such as liver, heart, kidneys, etc. In this imaging technique a person is laid in an MR scanner and a paddle (plastic drum) is put on the area of interest to send sound vibration via a speaker placed outside the scan room which is connecting plastic drum via a plastic tube. This trial studies biomarkers obtained by bronchoscopy (bronchoalveolar lavage and lung brushings) to determine the effect of smoking e-cigarettes on the lungs. Studying samples of lung cells from participants who smoke e-cigarettes may help doctors learn more about changes that occur in deoxyribonucleic acid and identify biomarkers related to cancer. C-diff infection often causes belly pain and diarrhea and can be very hard to treat with medicine. One of the possible reasons that C-diff infection is hard to treat is because there is too much "bad" bacteria in the colon. Investigators believe that putting more "good" bacteria into the colon will help fight the "bad" bacteria. We do this by doing a fecal (poop) transplant. Fecal transplant has been done at other hospitals, but not at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Since our Investigators have not done this before, this study will help us learn the best way to do the transplant. Investigators also believe this transplant might help improve symptoms for patients with C-diff. Read Less
