STEP TEENS Weight Maintenance: A Research Study on How Well Semaglutide Helps Teenagers With Excess Body Weight to Lose Weight and Maintain Weight Loss
Recruiting
The study is testing how well semaglutide can help adolescents with excess body weight to lose weight and to maintain weight loss. All participants in the study will receive semaglutide as a weekly injection. The study medicine is injected with a thin needle in the stomach, thighs or upper arms. All participants will get semaglutide treatment for a minimum of 3 years.

A Research Study to Look Into the Long-term Effect on Weight Loss of CagriSema in People With Obesity
Recruiting
This study will look at how well CagriSema helps people with obesity lose weight compared to a "dummy medicine". CagriSema is a new medicine developed by Novo Nordisk. CagriSema cannot yet be prescribed by doctors. The study has two parts: First part is called the main phase and will last for 2 years, and second part is called the extension phase and will last for 1 year. In the main phase participants will either get CagriSema or "dummy medicine". Which treatment participants get is decided by... Read More

Fibrosis Lessens After Metabolic Surgery
Recruiting
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a major global public health concern, is commonly associated with obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. MASLD is currently the most common cause of chronic liver disease affecting about 80% of people with obesity, ranging from simple fat deposits in the liver to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), cellular injury, advanced fibrosis, cirrhosis, or hepa... BariaPSY: the Data Bank
Recruiting
Multimorbidity, the co-occurrence of several chronic conditions, is a growing phenomenon that poses new challenges for clinicians and researchers. The association between a mental health disorder and a physical health disorder represents a particularly frequent subtype of multimorbidity and is associated with greater severity and higher consumption of care. It is essential and urgent to explore the specific pathophysiology of this subtype of multimorbidity in order to develop adapted therapeutic... Read More

Obesity Management for Kidney TRANSPLANTation: OK-TRANSPLANT 2
Recruiting
OK-TRANSPLANT 2 is a vanguard study for a large randomized, pragmatic, open-label trial. We will randomize participants with obesity, high-risk CKD/dialysis who are hoping for lose weight for the purpose of kidney transplant. Subjects will either be enrolled on a virtual weight management program or continue their usual care.

Predicting Appendicular Lean and Fat Mass With Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Among Adult Patients With Obesity.
Recruiting
This study aims to develop and cross-validate novel bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) equations for predicting appendicular soft tissue masses, specifically fat mass (FM) and appendicular lean mass (ALM), in a sample of Caucasian adult subjects affected by obesity. The research will compare these new BIA equations with three established BIA-derived prediction models and validate them using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. This study utilizes... Read More

Impact of Milk and Yogurt Supplementation on Bone Health, Body Composition, and Gut Microbiota in Canadian Young Adults
Recruiting
Milk and dairy products contain significant amounts of nutrients that contribute to optimal health - nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, and high-quality protein. Fermented milk products or fermented dairy products are dairy foods that have been fermented with certain bacteria. Yogurt is a fermented dairy product containing millions of beneficial bacteria. In this study, the invesgitagtors will look at the effect of milk (a non-fermented dairy product) and yogurt (a fermented dairy product) suppl... Read More

Single Anastomosis Versus Standard Duodenal Switch
Recruiting
Bilio-Pancreatic diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS) is the most effective bariatric procedure in terms of long-term weight loss and remission rate of Type 2 Diabetes. However, its technical difficulty and increased risk of long-term nutritional deficiencies have been a major hindrance to its diffusion. Recently, a " simplified " technique of Duodenal-Switch has been proposed by Sanchez-Pernaute et al. This technique involves the creation of a Sleeve Gastrectomy, transection of the first du... Management of Sleeve Gastrectomy Failure Using Single-anastomosis Metabolic Surgery
Recruiting
Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) has become the most commonly performed weight loss surgery, accounting for 60% of all bariatric operations worldwide. While technically easier with less side-effects and nutritional risks than other operations, SG is also associated with a higher risk of failure (20 to 40%). In such case, the most effective option consists in adding an intestinal bypass called the Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS). This surgery is, however, technically challenging an... Read More

Effect of Acute ObeEnd Exposure on Factors Regulating Appetite
Recruiting
n Canada, over 60% of adults are classified as overweight and obese resulting in a public health crisis including increasing health care costs and negatively impacting the well-being of many Canadians. To overcome these barriers, the ObeEnd device, manufactured by WAT Medical Enterprise, is a new and innovative wellness technology that uses electrical pulses to stimulate acupressure point PC6 to help control appetite. PC6 stimulation could potentially modulate appetite and restore gastric dysfun... Read More

RMR Monitoring Feasibility and Acceptability
Recruiting
Obesity is a leading risk factor for chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Generic weight management programs that target dietary intake and physical activity have been shown to be ineffective in maintaining weight loss beyond a 6-month period. Personalizing weight management programs produces more weight loss than generic programs, possibly through improved self-efficacy (confidence in one's ability to control weight through behavior). One way to personal... Read More

Exogenous Ketones and Appetite
Recruiting
People with obesity have different appetitive responses to stimuli compared to people without obesity. For example, people with obesity have a blunted postprandial ghrelin ('hunger' hormone) response, lower glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and peptide-YY (PYY; associated with satiety) compared to people without obesity. Given the favorable effects of exogenous ketones on appetite previously observed in healthy adults of normal body weight, it is possible that these supplements can alter appetite... Read More
