The Effects of Intraoperative Tranexamic Acid on Perioperative Bleeding In Craniotomies
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effect of a drug called tranexamic acid (TXA) on reducing blood loss in participants undergoing surgery to remove brain tumors. The main questions it aims to answer are:
1. Does TXA 20 mg/kg IV bolus of TXA, and 1 mg/kg/hr infusion of TXA reduce the amount of estimated blood loss during surgery?
2. Does TXA 20 mg/kg IV bolus of TXA, and 1 mg/kg/hr infusion of TXA prevent re-operation, disability or death related to bleeding inside the head during a... Read More

Nutritional Support During Induction Therapy for Esophageal Cancer
Recruiting
Patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer have difficulty eating, as the food pipe becomes obstructed by the cancer. This may impair the ability for the patient to receive appropriate calorie intake, especially during administration of chemotherapy and radiation therapy given prior to surgical resection.
A strategy is to place a feeding tube directly in the stomach or in the small bowel to have an access to the patient's gastrointestinal tract during administration of chemo radiation therapy. H... Read More

Cellular precOnditioning for Post-Surgical Myocardial Ischemic Complications - Observational Study
Recruiting
The goal of this observational study is to collect health data on people who are at high risk of having heart complications and are having a surgery that is not on the heart. The main questions it aims to answer are:
* Is this study feasible in terms of recruiting enough people to participate in this study?
* How often do heart complications happen in people who are at high risk of heart complications and are having a surgery that is not on the heart?
Participants will have their usual care an... Read More

IBD Neoplasia Surveillance RCT
Recruiting
We will conduct a multicenter, parallel-group, non-inferiority RCT in persons with IBD undergoing colorectal neoplasia screening with high-definition white light colonoscopy, comparing a strategy of sampling visible lesions alone to a conventional strategy of sampling both visible lesions as well as normal-appearing mucosa using non-targeted biopsies. The primary outcome is the neoplasia detection rate. The required sample size to demonstrate non-inferiority is 1952 persons.

Improving Strength and Balance Through Exercise With LudoFit
Recruiting
The goal of this mixed methods cohort study is to explore how an innovative game-based, technology-enabled home exercise software compares to a conventional home-based exercise program in older adults at risk for falls. The main question\[s\] it aims to answer are:
* Does the exercise software lead to better or similar adherence to exercise recommendations compared to the conventional exercise program?
* Does the exercise software improve user strength and balance, as measured by relevant physi... Read More

The ALOFT Pilot Trial
Recruiting
The ALOFT Pilot Trial will evaluate three pragmatic elements (recruitment, adherence, and follow-up) of neuraxial versus general anesthesia for lower limb revascularization surgery that are necessary to support a successful, large-scale evaluation. We will concurrently use implementation science methodology to further refine processes for the larger trial.
The future full ALOFT trial will be designed to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of two different anesthesia types for improving outco... Read More

Appetite and Dietary Intake Across the Menstrual Cycle
Recruiting
Lay language summary: Women are younger and menstruating about monthly ("pre-menopausal") often have fluctuations in the food they eat ("dietary intake") across the menstrual cycle. However, relationships between food intake and appetite, metabolism, body composition (i.e., the proportion of muscle and fat), physical activity and premenstrual symptoms have not been reported. This study will measure appetite and food intake in laboratory and usual life settings in healthy pre-menopausal women in... Read More

Surgical Management of Irreparable RC Tears
Recruiting
The primary goal will be to compare the early postoperative recovery outcomes and complications from a series of surgical treatments for massive or irreparable rotator cuff tears. Inhaled Nitric Oxide (iNO) in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
Recruiting
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive lung disease marked by reduced exercise capacity and activity-related breathlessness (commonly termed dyspnea). Our previous work has shown that dyspnea during exercise is associated with an increased drive to breathe (inspiratory neural drive; IND). However, little work has been done to understand the mechanisms of exertional dyspnea in patients with mild IPF. The objectives of this study are to compare the acute effects of inhaled nitric oxi...
