The main objectives of this Phase 3 study are to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication's ability to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events (such as heart attacks and strokes) in adults at risk. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the investigational medication or a placebo. Should you express interest, you will be contacted directly by the research site, which will provide further details and answer any questions you may have about study requirements, risks/benefits, and any compensation.

Contributions to Hypertension With Androgen Deprivation Therapy
Recruiting
This study plans to learn more about contributors to high blood pressure in men who undergo androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) to treat prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in men, affecting approximately 1 in 8 American men and its primary treatment is through the use of ADT. However, ADT increases the likelihood of developing heart disease including high blood pressure. This study will determine if dysfunction of the nervous system and/or kidneys occurs in men un... Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training for Lowering Blood Pressure and Improving Endothelial Function in Postmenopausal Women: Comparison With "Standard of Care" Aerobic Exercise
Recruiting
High blood pressure (BP) is the major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and related health conditions, particularly among postmenopausal (PM) women. In adults age ≥50 years this risk is primarily driven by above-normal systolic BP (SBP ≥120 mmHg), as diastolic BP plateaus, then decreases in older adulthood. Although SBP is lower in premenopausal women vs. age-matched men, SBP reaches, then surpasses men after age 60. As such, \>75% of PM women in the U.S. have above-normal... Read More

Nicotinamide Riboside for Treating Elevated Systolic Blood Pressure and Arterial Stiffness in Middle-aged and Older Adults
Recruiting
Aging is the primary risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), the number one cause of death in developed societies. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) increase with age and is a key intermediary factor linking aging to increased CVD risk. The primary mechanisms underlying the age-associated increase in SBP is stiffening of the large elastic arteries, which is mediated by increases in oxidative stress, inflammation, and vascular smooth muscle tone. Regular caloric restriction is effective at low... Read More

Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training in Chronic Kidney Disease
Recruiting
More than 80% of individuals with chronic kidney disease have concomitant hypertension and the majority fail to achieve blood pressure control \<130/80 mmHg, leading to high risk of cardiovascular diseases and end-stage kidney disease. A stepwise combination of lifestyle modifications and drug therapy is recommended to lower blood pressure; however, adherence to time-intensive lifestyle interventions such as aerobic exercise in patients with chronic kidney disease is poor. This clinical trial se... Read More

Mono vs. Dual Therapy for Pediatric Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
Recruiting
The investigators' central hypothesis is that early combination therapy with two PAH-specific oral therapies that have been shown to be well tolerated in the pediatric population, sildenafil and bosentan, will result in better World Health Organization (WHO) functional class at 12 months after initiation of PAH treatment than therapy with sildenafil alone.

Wild Blueberries and Cardiovascular Health in Middle-aged/Older Men and Postmenopausal Women
Recruiting
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Aging is the primary risk factor for CVD, in large part due to adverse modifications to the arteries. These modifications include vascular endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness. Vascular endothelial dysfunction is an initiating step in atherosclerosis, and is primarily caused by reduced nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability secondary to excessive superoxide-driven oxidative stress and inflammation. Endot... Read More

Identifying Right Ventricular Dysfunction in COPD Through Right Heart Catheterization, Imaging and Exercise
Recruiting
This study plans to learn more about heart function among individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In particular, the investigators want to understand the different patterns of right ventricular response to pulmonary hypertension (high pressure in the lungs) during rest and exercise. By identifying patterns of right ventricular dysfunction, this study will help identify better treatments for patients with COPD in the future.

Breathe Easier With Tadalafil Therapy for Dyspnea in COPD-PH
Recruiting
The investigators will study whether the drug tadalafil improves shortness of breath in 126 Veterans with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and high blood pressure in the lungs. The investigators will also assess whether tadalafil improves quality of life, home daily physical activity, exercise endurance, the frequency of acute flares of COPD, blood pressure in the lungs, and lung function. Veterans who enroll in the trial will be allocated by chance to either active tadalafil or an i... Read More

Pulmonary Hypertension Association Registry
Recruiting
The PHA Registry (PHAR) is a national study about people who have pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). PHAR collects information from people with PAH and CTEPH who are cared for in participating PHA-accredited Pulmonary Hypertension Care Centers throughout the U.S.
PHAR will determine how people with PAH and CTEPH are evaluated, tested, and treated, and will observe how well these participants do. The goal is to see if people with PH a... Read More
