There are currently 24 active clinical trials seeking participants for Premature Birth research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for Premature Birth participants are New York, California, Ohio and Illinois.
Post-Vent, the Sequelae: Personalized Prognostic Modeling for Consequences of Neonatal Intermittent Hypoxemia in Preterm Infants at Pre-School Age
Recruiting
Despite improved survival of extremely premature infants in recent decades, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) graduates are diagnosed with asthma, sleep disordered breathing (SDB) in childhood, and neurodevelopmental impairments (NDI) at significant rates, disproportionate to their term peers. Early detection and intervention are critical to mitigate the impact of these impairments. Mechanisms leading from premature birth to these undesirable outcomes remain unclear, and accurate prognostic me... Read More

Effects of a Physical Therapy Intervention on Motor Delay in Infants Admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Recruiting
Study Aims Pilot study: Due to the large recruitment goal and length of the project, the study team/PIs will evaluate the first cohort of 6-10 participants to refine study procedures and study-related materials. If no major modifications are made to the protocol as a result of this evaluation, data from these participants will be included for analysis. Aim 1: Evaluate the efficacy of an early, evidence-based, clinical experience-based therapeutic intervention (from the NICU to 12-months correc... Read More

Postpartum Care in the NICU (PeliCaN) Transitions
Recruiting
This is a randomized controlled trial of a dyad-centered, doula support and healthcare coordination model of care in a large urban neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which serves a high-risk, low-income, majority Black population. In addition to doula support and coordination of care in the NICU, there will be a warm handoff to a community doula to continue the support once infants leave the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) NICU.

Exploring the Feasibility of Centering Pregnancy with Care Navigation
Recruiting
Pacific Islanders residing in the United States (US) have disproportionally high rates of preterm birth (\<37 weeks) and low birthweight infants (\<2,500 grams). They are also more likely to experience preeclampsia, primary cesarean birth, excessive gestational weight gain, and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) compared to other racial/ethnic minorities. These maternal health factors serve as precursors to maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. Pacific Islanders have almost twice the inf... Read More

Engaging Mothers & Babies; Reimagining Antenatal Care for Everyone (EMBRACE) Study
Recruiting
This is a randomized comparative effectiveness study of two forms of enhanced prenatal care among 657 Medi-Cal eligible pregnant individuals in Fresno, California. The goal is to see whether group prenatal care with wrap around services versus individual prenatal care supplemented by services covered by the California Department of Public Health Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) results in less depression and anxiety, and more respectful, more person-centered maternity care and low... Duodenal Feeds in Very Low Birth Weight Infants
Recruiting
Premature infants have high rates of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) due to prematurity of the participants' lungs and the need for prolonged respiratory support. These infants are at increased risk for gastroesophageal reflux and aspiration which may exacerbate lung injury. Transpyloric feeds, specifically duodenal feeds, may be used to bypass the stomach and directly feed the duodenum decreasing the amount of gastric reflux contributing to aspiration. Duodenal feeds are equivalent to gastric... Read More

Development of a Therapeutic Device to Improve Speech Sound Differentiation in Preterm Infants
Recruiting
The goal of this clinical study is to test a new, novel medical device designed to improve speech sound differentiation among hospitalized preterm infants. The device is designed to be used at an age equivalent to 32 weeks of gestation or older and to integrate readily into clinical practice for use by nurses and therapists staffing Level II to Level IV NICUs. Preterm born infants are at high risk for neurosensory impairments and developmental delays. In the NICU, infants are often deprived of i... Read More

Childhood Outcomes of Preterm Brain Abnormalities
Recruiting
Prematurely born children are at higher risk of cognitive impairments and behavioral disorders than full-term children. There is growing evidence of significant volumetric and shape abnormalities in subcortical structures of premature neonates, which may be associated to negative long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. The general objective is to look directly at the long-term neurodevelopmental implications of these neonatal subcortical structures abnormalities. Investigators propose to develop... Read More

Recruiting
This study is an evaluation of the Fresh Rx: Nourishing Healthy Starts program administered by Operation Food Search, a St. Louis-based nonprofit organization. The program provides food and nutrition supports to food insecure pregnant women in conjunction with integrative care services in order to improve health and birth outcomes for both the mother and the child. PPROM Registry (Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes)
Recruiting
Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) before 37 weeks of pregnancy is responsible for 40% of preterm births in the United States. The PPROM Registry aims to identify possible causes of PPROM, evaluate trends in expectant management, measure maternal and fetal care, and to review short term and long term outcomes of affected pregnancies and births.
