There are currently 37 active clinical trials seeking participants for Sepsis research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for Autism participants are California, New York, Ontario and Florida.
Senolytics To slOw Progression of Sepsis (STOP-Sepsis) Trial
Recruiting
The long-term goal is to test the clinical efficacy of senolytic therapies to reduce progression to and severity of sepsis in older patients. The central hypothesis is that a threshold burden of SnCs predisposes to a SASP mediated dysfunctional response to PAMPs, contributing to a disproportionate burden of sepsis in older patients. The study hypothesizes timely treatment with fisetin will interrupt this pathway. A multicenter, randomized, adaptive allocation clinical trial to identify the most... Read More

The PASTDUe Nutrition Ecosystem Project (PASTDUe)
Recruiting
This is a research study to determine if a particular method of providing nutrition improves the clinical outcomes of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) who have undergone abdominal surgery and would require nutrition delivered via the bloodstream (called total parenteral nutrition or TPN). The nutrition method we are testing is a structured nutrition delivery plan that involves tube feeding, oral nutrition supplements, and the use of a device (called an indirect calorimeter or IC) to mea... Pathological Myeloid Activation After Sepsis and Trauma
Recruiting
The goal of this observational study is to better understand what happens to circulating blood after a patient experiences severe trauma injury. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is severe human trauma associated with specific patterns of development in the hematopoietic stem cells of these patients? and Does the initial severe trauma injury create immunosuppression and increase risk of in-hospital sepsis? Participants in study will give blood samples and a waste sample of bone marrow at... Read More

Change in MAPSE During Treatment of Sepsis
Recruiting
Patients with bloodstream infections (sepsis) have been found in prior studies to have infection-related heart dysfunction, even if they did not have preexisting heart problems. Factors related to the infection may cause the heart to not pump as well as it should, causing critical illness in the form of low blood pressure (shock) and heart failure. Ultrasound is frequently used in the emergency department to evaluate why a patient might have low blood pressure. Part of that evaluation may includ... Read More

Prediction of Rehospitalization Following a Sepsis Admission Using a Wearable Biopatch
Recruiting
The goal of this observational study is to learn about the utility of biopatches predicting 30-day readmissions in patients discharged from the hospital with sepsis. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: • Does the application of a biopatch provide data that can improve prediction of an unplanned 30-day readmission following a hospitalization for sepsis. Participants will be asked to wear a biopatch on their chest for 30-days following hospital discharge or until readmission to the hosp... Read More

Multicenter Symphony IL-6 Monitoring Sepsis ICU Study
Recruiting
The primary objective of this study is to establish an IL-6 concentration cutoff and optimal time point(s) for using Symphony IL-6 that predict 28-day mortality in patients who are admitted or are intended to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) diagnosed with sepsis or septic shock.

An Acupuncture Study for People At High Risk for Sepsis
Recruiting
Researchers think acupuncture may improve outcomes for participants with sepsis, based on laboratory studies and previous studies in people with sepsis. The purpose of this study to see whether real acupuncture can improve outcomes for participants with sepsis when compared to sham acupuncture. Sham acupuncture is performed the same way as real acupuncture but will use different needles and target different sites or places on the body than real acupuncture.

Dysfunctional Myelopoiesis and Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells in Sepsis
Recruiting
Adverse outcomes in surgical sepsis patients are secondary to dysregulated emergency myelopoiesis, and expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells. Here we propose to determine the underlying mechanisms behind the increased expansion of these leukocyte populations and the underlying mechanisms that drive inflammation and immune suppression.

Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System In Septic Kids
Recruiting
Prospective observational cohort study; pediatric sepsis vs. healthy pediatric subjects and pediatric sepsis with acute kidney injury (AKI) vs without AKI. Blood samples and renal ultrasound will be collected on sequential days for septic subject and one time for the healthy patients. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) with be run on serum plasma to compare the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) between groups.

Micro and Macro Circulation in Sepsis
Recruiting
Purpose: To assess the prognostic role of Handheld Vital Microscopy (HVM) and evaluate levels of endothelial glycocalyx (eGC) breakdown in patients demonstrating Hemodynamic Incoherence (HI), to elucidate a mechanistic link between the eGC and HI in order to inform prognostic enrichment of future resuscitation trials. We will serially evaluate microhemodynamics (MiH) and macro hemodynamics (maH) and the perfused boundary region (PBR, an visual proxy for eGC thickness) using HVM, and a validated... Read More

Cefiderocol PK in Patients on ECMO
Recruiting
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a form of cardiopulmonary life-support for critically ill patients where blood is extracted from the vascular system and circulated by a mechanical pump while it is oxygenated and reinfused into the patient's circulation. It is well known that critically ill patients may experience alterations in antibiotic pharmacokinetics, and as a result, dosing modifications are generally required. There is a need to understand how ECMO circuits affect the pharma... Read More

Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Prognosticators in Pediatric Oncology Patients With Sepsis
Recruiting
The overall purpose of this protocol is to identify subacute sepsis-associated cardiac disease in pediatric patients with cancer by CMR and evaluate the CMR findings during their follow-up. This will help inform heart failure management decision making. Evidence of dysfunction or elevated T2 values may inform adjustment of afterload reduction and beta blocker administration, and elevated ECV findings will suggest the need for increased surveillance for diastolic dysfunction. Primary Objectives:... Read More
