Natural History of Sickle Cell Disease
Recruiting
This study is not a treatment protocol and no experimental treatments are involved. Study participants may be seen as needed for clinical, translational and basic research studies, or as medically indicated. Subjects will receive their general medical care outside the NIH and will be seen at our clinic or at CNHS with varying frequency. Subjects may be seen for multiple visits. Subjects may be asked to return for additional testing as needed. Clinical care for patients with sickle cell disease w... Read More

Study of IW-3300 for the Treatment of Bladder Pain in Subjects With Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome
Recruiting
The aim of this study is to assess whether IW-3300 is safe and works for the treatment of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). The main question the study aims to answer is whether IW-3300 helps bladder pain and other symptoms (for example, bladder burning, pressure and discomfort). Subjects will be assigned to receive either the study drug or placebo by chance.

Study of BOTOX Injections to Assess Change in Disease Activity and Adverse Events in Adult Female Participants With Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS)
Recruiting
Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic and debilitating urological complex of disorders characterized by symptoms of bladder pain or discomfort, mostly upon bladder filling, and often accompanied by lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). This study will assess how safe and effective BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is in treating IC/BPS. Adverse events and change in disease symptoms will be evaluated. BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an investigational drug being developed for t... Read More

PVB vs Ketamine/Lidocaine in Rib Fracture Patients
Recruiting
Rib fractures are a common admission to the trauma service. The mainstay of treatment is pain control to improve respiratory effort in order to offset the risk of pneumonia and mechanical ventilation. In addition to standard pain control modalities, the investigator's institution utilizes paravertebral blocks as well as lidocaine and ketamine infusions for pain control. The current standard of care for pain control is to begin with acetaminophen, ibuprofen or celecoxib and opioids with the addit... Read More

Comparison of Qutenza (8% Capsaicin) With a Low-dose Capsaicin for Treatment of Nerve Pain After Surgery
Recruiting
This is an interventional, Phase III, double-blind, randomized, controlled, parallel-group, multi-site, clinical trial to confirm the efficacy and safety of repeated topical application of Qutenza (capsaicin 8% topical system) versus low-dose capsaicin control (capsaicin 0.04% topical system) in subjects with moderate to severe postsurgical neuropathic pain (PSNP).

Intraperitoneal Infusion of Analgesic for Postoperative Pain Management
Recruiting
The study is a prospective, double-blinded, placebo-controlled multi-center trial to measure if postoperative pain and the amount of narcotics used are reduced by a clinically significant amount in women undergoing minimally invasive hysterectomy receiving a continuous infusion of intraperitoneal (IP) local anesthetic (LA) or a continuous infusion of LA combined with an NSAID compared with a control group who receives only 0.9% normal saline.

SPR PNS for Chronic Shoulder Pain
Recruiting
The purpose of this research is to gather post-market data regarding the effectiveness of the SPRINT Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) System for the treatment of chronic shoulder pain due to chronic degenerative changes of your shoulder. The System delivers mild electrical stimulation to the muscles in your shoulder. The System includes up to two leads (small wires) that are placed through your skin into your shoulder. The leads attach to a device worn on your body that deliver stimulation (ca... Read More

Transvaginal Low-level Laser Therapy to Improve Pelvic Pain and Sexual Function in Patients With Endometriosis.
Recruiting
Dyspareunia is defined as pain with penetrative sexual intercourse. Women with endometriosis have a nine-fold increased risk of dyspareunia, when compared to the general female population. A prospective single-blinded randomized controlled trial will be performed evaluating the change in pelvic pain and sexual satisfaction scores from baseline to 6 weeks after treatment with transvaginal photobiomodulation therapy or sham therapy. Treatment will involve 9 planned treatment sessions over 3-4 wee... Read More

Measuring Analgesic Interventions
Recruiting
It is generally recognized that pain assessment and management especially in newborns, children and other nonverbal populations is an unmet need. According to the American Medical Association, "the pediatric population is at risk of inadequate pain management, with age-related factors affecting pain management in children. Children are often given minimal or no analgesia for procedures that would routinely be treated aggressively in adults. Although much is now known about pain management in chi... Read More
