The purpose of this study is to determine if hip precautions, which are instructions that limit functional use of a hip replacement after surgery, affect the rate of dislocation in the first six weeks after primary total hip replacement surgery. The impact of hip precautions on a patient's return to activities of daily living and overall patient satisfaction will also be investigated. The overall cost effectiveness of hip precautions will be determined. Read Less

The objective is to identify modifiable clinical factors and neurobiological pathways that lead to the development of chronic pain in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis. Participants will undergo quantitative sensory testing, a type of testing that involves assessing response to well-defined, quantifiable painful stimuli, at 0, 3, and 12 months. A subset of participants will also undergo magnetic resonance imaging at 0 and 12 months to assess neuroimaging markers that have previously been shown to be involved in chronic pain. Read Less

The purpose of the proposed study is to evaluate the efficacy of dronabinol for postoperative pain after arthroscopic surgery of the knee. The investigators hypothesize that dronabinol will relieve pain, reduce opioid consumption and will result in few negative side effects. If this pilot study shows promising results the investigators will expand the trial to include additional arthroscopic surgeries (hip, shoulder) and other types of orthopaedic surgery. Read Less

The proposed research study aims to evaluate the effects of autologous bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) on the development and progression of osteoarthritis (OA) in patients undergoing meniscectomy. This prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial will compare patient-reported outcomes, specifically IKDC scores between patients who receive BMAC post-meniscectomy and those who receive a saline control injection. The study will also compare physical examination, MRI, radiographs, and synovial fluid analysis. The objectives of this study are to confirm the safety, performance, and clinical benefits of Zimmer Biomet Shoulder Arthroplasty Systems and its instrumentation in primary or revision shoulder arthroplasty. These objectives will be assessed using standard scoring systems, radiographic evidence, and adverse event records. Compared to the knee and shoulder, the hip joint leaves relatively little space to maneuver arthroscopic instruments and camera. To expand the potential space in the hip joint, traction is commonly applied to the operative leg through a perineal post. This is an effective technique to improve the working space for arthroscopy, however it has been associated with complications, including perineal numbness. Traction pads, used alone or with a perineal post, can reduce pressure on the perineal area, thus reducing numbness. The investigators hypothesize that positioning hip arthroscopy patients using a traction pad on a standard traction table with a perineal post will reduce the incidence and duration of postoperative perineal numbness. Thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) osteoarthritis (OA) is common, seen frequently in middle-aged and elderly women. While a variety of surgical treatments have been described with none superior to any other, there is no consensus on the optimal duration of postoperative immobilization. Immobilization following surgery is critical for wound healing, pain control, and aid with activities of daily living in the early recovery period, though the duration of this must be weighed against the negative impacts of immobilization, such as stiffness, contracture, and delay in return to full function. The information gained in this study may allow hand surgeons to use an evidence-based postoperative rehabilitation protocol. Thus, our goal is to compare varying durations of postoperative immobilization after thumb CMC arthroplasty in a randomized trial design. Subjects will be randomized to treatment with non-removable thumb spica plaster postoperative splint immobilization for 2 weeks or non-removable thumb spica plaster splint transitioned to cast for a total of 6 weeks immobilization following base of thumb arthroplasty. This study will test the safety and effects of SBT777101 when given as a single dose to subjects with rheumatoid arthritis. It is the first study of this treatment being done in humans. Increasing dose levels will be given after the safety at lower dose levels is shown. Read Less
