This randomized phase III trial studies digital tomosynthesis mammography and digital mammography in screening patients for breast cancer. Screening for breast cancer with tomosynthesis mammography may be superior to digital mammography for breast cancer screening and may help reduce the need for additional imaging or treatment. This randomized phase III trial studies how well crizotinib works in treating patients with stage IB-IIIA non-small cell lung cancer that has been removed by surgery and has a mutation in a protein called anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). Mutations, or changes, in ALK can make it very active and important for tumor cell growth and progression. Crizotinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the ALK protein from working. Crizotinib may be an effective treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer and an ALK fusion mutation. Read Less

The overall objective is to compare hand casting to standing hydrostatic pressure casting using a water cylinder in persons with lower limb amputation. Our overall hypothesis is that standing hydrostatic pressure casting with a water cylinder will lead to more consistent and efficient residual limb shape capture and improved initial socket fit and comfort compared to hand casting. Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA) are genetic neurological diseases that cause imbalance, poor coordination, and speech difficulties. There are different kinds of SCA and this study will focus on types 1, 2,3, and 6 (SCA 1, SCA 2, SCA 3 , also known as Machado-Joseph disease and SCA 6). The diseases are rare, slowly progressive, cause increasingly severe neurological difficulties and are variable across and within genotypes. The purpose of this research study is to bring together a group of experts in the field of SCA for the purpose of learning more about the disease. The research questions are: How does your disease progress over time? What are the best ways to measure the progression? Do some genes, other than the gene that is abnormal in your disease, have any effect on the way the disease behaves? This is a nationwide study and we expect that 800 patients will participate all over the USA. The participants will be in the study for an indeterminate period of time. The PROVE Trial is a randomized clinical trial that will determine whether a weight loss intervention combined with walking exercise achieves greater improvement or less decline in six-minute walk distance at 12 month follow-up than walking exercise alone in people with PAD and BMI>25 kg/m2. The intervention uses a Group Mediated Cognitive Behavioral framework, connective mobile technology, remote monitoring by a coach, and a calorie restricted Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)-derived Optimal Macronutrient Intake Trial for Heart Health (OMNIHeart) diet. 212 participants with PAD and BMI > 25 kg/m2 will be randomized to one of two groups: weight loss + exercise (WL+EX) vs. exercise alone (EX). Participants will be randomized at Northwestern, Tulane University, and University of Minnesota. Our primary outcome is change in six-minute walk distance at 12-month follow-up. Secondary outcomes are change in 6-minute walk distance at 6-month follow-up and change in exercise adherence, physical activity, patient-reported walking ability (measured by the Walking Impairment Questionnaire (WIQ) distance score), and mobility (measured by the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System [PROMIS] mobility questionnaire) at 12-month follow-up. Tertiary outcomes are perceived exertional effort (measured by the Borg scale at the end of the 6-minute walk at 12-month follow-up), and diet quality. Exploratory outcomes consist of change in the short physical performance battery (SPPB), the WIQ stair climbing and walking speed scores, and calf muscle biopsy measures at 12-month follow-up. Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurogenetic disorder caused by a loss or mutation in the survival motor neuron 1 gene (SMN1) on chromosome 5q13, which leads to reduced SMN protein levels and a selective dysfunction of motor neurons. SMA is an autosomal recessive, early childhood disease with an incidence of 1:10,000 live births. SMA is the leading cause of infant mortality due to genetic diseases. Until recently, the mainstay of treatment for these patients was supportive medical care. However, advances in medical treatment focusing on gene replacement, gene enhancement, motor neuron protection and muscle enhancement is likely to change the management and prognosis of these patients in the future. A group of clinicians and researchers developed an 8-session group intervention that integrates education, support, self-reflection, and action-expectation to help people reaffirm or reconstruct self-grounded purpose after significant life events/transitions. The 8 sessions extend over 2-3 months, with 7 weekly sessions and the final session 1 month after Session 7. The intervention, called the Compass Course is structured around the 6 dimensions of flourishing (autonomy, self-acceptance, personal growth, relationships, purpose in life, external mastery), the goal of which is to help people enact behaviors that move them forward in reframing a sense of self and reaffirming or reconstructing a sense of purpose in their daily lives. Participating in this research will involve an introduction session, where informed consent will be obtained, followed by the 8-session intervention for 9 sessions in total. A team composed of researchers from Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute (CKRI) propose to recruit a convenience sample of individuals who were hospitalized with COVID-19 to evaluate the efficacy of administering the Compass Course to a novel population, to improve psychological well-being, engagement in everyday activities, and purpose in life. A focus group will be scheduled 2 months after the completion of the Compass Course. This session is composed of brief questionnaires and designed to obtain post-course data to help evaluate the Compass Course intervention. Read Less
