New Mexico Paid Clinical Trials

This multi-centered, randomized controlled trial will evaluate the safety and efficacy of home use of the novel Reia System (RS), which includes the Reia pessary and applicator, compared to standard pessary care (Gellhorn or ring with/without support without knob) among women with stage II-IV pelvic organ prolapse (POP). A total of 182 participants will be recruited among pessary naïve patients who are symptomatic and choose a vaginal pessary for management of their POP from study sites specializing in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS). Participants will be assigned via 1:1 randomization using computer generated numbers in permutated groups of variable block sizes to either the intervention (the Reia System, RS) or standard pessary care (SPC) stratified by site. Participation in this trial will involve a total of four visits over six months. The primary outcome measure will be the number of successful self-managed pessary removal events completed over the six-month time frame. Secondary outcomes will include validated surveys to assess quality of life, adverse events and satisfaction with treatment. Specific Aims Aim 1: To compare number of self-management events over a 6-month period between subjects randomized to the Reia System and those randomized to standard of care pessary. Aim 2: To assess successful fitting, number of refitting visits, and continued pessary use over a 6-month period between subjects randomized to the Reia System and those randomized to standard of care pessary. Aim 3: To compare satisfaction with treatment and quality of life over a 6-month period between subjects randomized to the Reia System and those randomized to standard of care pessary. The MATIC-2 is a multicenter clinical trial enrolling children who are less than 18 years of age with hemorrhagic shock potentially needing significant blood transfusion. The primary objective of the clinical trial is to determine the effectiveness of Low Titer Group O Whole Blood (LTOWB) compared to component therapy (CT), and Tranexamic Acid (TXA) compared to placebo in decreasing 24-hour all-cause mortality in children with traumatic life threatening hemorrhage. This phase III trial compares the effect of 3 study approaches in preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy: 1) cryocompression, 2) continuous compression, and 3) low cyclic compression. Taxane chemotherapy drugs, such as paclitaxel or docetaxel, can cause a nerve disorder called peripheral neuropathy, which can cause numbness, tingling, or pain in the arms and legs. The 3 study approaches will use a device, called the Paxman Limb Cryocompression System, made of wraps that cool and/or compress the arms and legs. This study may help researchers determine if any of the study approaches are able to prevent taxane chemotherapy from causing peripheral neuropathy. Read Less

Goal: The long-term goal of this study is to develop a mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) program to reduce stress and burnout while increasing belongingness and connectedness among faculty and staff at the University of New Mexico (UNM) College of Nursing (CON). Hypothesis/Aims: The central hypothesis is that the MBI intervention will improve psychosocial outcomes (sense of belonging) and physiological outcomes (heart rate variability, HRV) among CON faculty and staff. The specific aims are: Aim 1: Evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of MBIs (meditation or yoga) through participant interviews, recruitment, retention, and adherence rates. Aim 2: Assess the preliminary effects of MBIs on psychosocial (burnout, stress, anxiety, sense of belonging) and physiological (HRV) outcomes. The hypothesis predicts improvements in both psychosocial and physiological measures post-intervention. Participants: The study will recruit 60 participants from UNM CON faculty and staff using convenience sampling. Inclusion criteria require participants to be at least 18 years old, in general good health, employed at UNM CON, living in New Mexico, able to attend six weeks of in-person sessions, and owning a smartphone. Individuals with major medical conditions preventing participation are excluded. Additional screening follows the American College of Sports Medicine's guidelines. Groups: Participants will be assigned to one of two MBI groups: Mindfulness meditation Yoga Study Design: The study is a minimal-risk, single-site, quasi-experimental study. The participants of this study will have confirmed Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) and cirrhosis (scarring of the liver). PBC is a slowly progressive disease, characterised by damage to the bile ducts in the liver, leading to a build-up of bile acids which causes further damage. The liver damage in PBC may lead to cirrhosis. PBC may also be associated with multiple symptoms. Many patients with PBC may require liver transplant or may die if the disease progresses and a liver transplant is not done. This study will compare a daily dose of elafibranor (the study drug) to a daily dose of placebo (a dummy treatment) and will last up to 3.5 years for each participant. The main aim of this study is to determine if elafibranor is better than placebo in preventing clinical outcome events showing disease worsening (including progression of disease leading to liver transplant or death). This study will also study the safety of long-term treatment with elafibranor, as well as the impact on symptoms such as itching and tiredness. Read Less

In parallel with the growth of American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network's (ATHN) clinical studies, the number of new therapies for all congenital and acquired hematologic conditions, not just those for bleeding and clotting disorders, is increasing significantly. Some of the recently FDA-approved therapies for congenital and acquired hematologic conditions have yet to demonstrate long-term safety and effectiveness beyond the pivotal trials that led to their approval. In addition, results from well-controlled, pivotal studies often cannot be replicated once a therapy has been approved for general use.(1,2,3,4) In 2019 alone, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued approvals for twenty-four new therapies for congenital and acquired hematologic conditions.(5) In addition, almost 10,000 new studies for hematologic diseases are currently registered on www.clinicaltrials.gov.(6) With this increase in potential new therapies on the horizon, it is imperative that clinicians and clinical researchers in the field of non-neoplastic hematology have a uniform, secure, unbiased, and enduring method to collect long-term safety and efficacy data. ATHN Transcends is a cohort study to determine the safety, effectiveness, and practice of therapies used in the treatment of participants with congenital or acquired non-neoplastic blood disorders and connective tissue disorders with bleeding tendency. The study consists of 7 cohorts with additional study "arms" and "modules" branching off from the cohorts. The overarching objective of this longitudinal, observational study is to characterize the safety, effectiveness and practice of treatments for all people with congenital and acquired hematologic disorders in the US. As emphasized in a recently published review, accurate, uniform and quality national data collection is critical in clinical research, particularly for longitudinal cohort studies covering a lifetime of biologic risk.(7) Read Less

The primary objective of this study is to compare Assay results to diagnoses determined by currently accepted standards for lung cancer detection. This will be accomplished by analysis of sputum samples from three cohorts including healthy Participants, high risk Participants, and cancer patient Participants using the Assay as developed in accordance with findings of bioAffinity protocol BA-001 to confirm assay results. Adjustments will be made as necessary to finalize Assay design for clinical trials and commercialization. The secondary objective of this study is to determine optimum methods for collection of sputum samples. Three sputum collection methods used by high risk Participants will be compared. Individuals at high risk for lung cancer will be assigned to one of three sputum collection cohorts including (1) acapella® airway assist device under medical supervision to obtain a single sputum sample; (2) acapella® airway assist device to obtain a sputum sample over a three-day period, and (3) individuals who under medical supervision will collect a single sputum sample assisted by nebulization of between 0.9% to 10% hypertonic saline.
