This study compares the experiences of people who receive information about genetic testing from a computer-generated character to patients who receive information from a human genetics healthcare provider. Patients with cancer are increasingly recommended for genetic testing as standard of care. Multiple factors contribute to low usage of genetic testing but for many patients the lack of access to genetic counseling and testing is an important and flexible factor. Lack of access is especially relevant to racial/ethnic minority patients and those living in non-metropolitan rural settings who are frequently cared for at safety-net hospitals with limited genetics services. Alternative delivery models are necessary to improve rates of access to genetic testing in patients with cancer. Health information technology is under used by genetics providers. A patient-facing relational agent (PERLA) will provide pre-test genetics education in both English and Spanish across two clinical settings to facilitate more timely access to genetic testing. Using the PERLA intervention may help researchers learn different ways to provide education about genetic testing to patients with cancer compared to usual care. Read Less

This research study will evaluate the use of, and participants experience with, a new device called Addinex that safely stores and dispenses opioid medication. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of the Addinex device in cancer patients undergoing cancer-related surgery that require pain control with opioids after the surgery. Participants will be asked to answer questions about their medical history and background, fill out questionnaires, use a mobile application associated with the device, and undergo a phone interview one month after stopping use of the device. This study aims to find out how participants like using the Addinex device as opposed to a traditional pill bottle. Results of this study will help determine if the Addinex device could be useful to patients in the future after surgeries, as opposed to typical pill bottles. Read Less

This research is for patients who have gastrointestinal cancer and have a planned major surgery. The purpose of this research is to identify cancer patients who may be at risk for frailty. Frailty is common in older adults and may include symptoms of weight loss, weakness, fatigue, low activity, slow walking and other illnesses. Frailty may increase the risk of problems after major surgery. The study will involve a survey, a blood sample, and a review of medical records. Read Less

The researchers are doing this study to see if people with unexplained weight loss who have lung cancer screening are more likely to have or develop lung cancer than people without unexplained weight loss. The lung cancer screening will involve use of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT), a CT scan that gives off very low doses of radiation and can make detailed pictures of the lungs to help find tumors. Study STX-478-101 is a multipart, open-label, phase 1/2 study evaluating the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK), and preliminary antitumor activity of STX-478 (LY4064809) in participants with advanced solid tumors with P13Ka mutations. Part 1 will evaluate STX-478 as monotherapy in participants with advanced solid tumors. Part 2 will evaluate STX-478 therapy as combination therapy with fulvestrant in participants with hormone receptor positive (HR+) breast cancer. Part 3 will evaluate STX-478 as combination therapy with endocrine therapy (aromatase inhibitors, fulvestrant or imlunestrant) and a CDK4/6 Inhibitor (either Ribociclib, Palbociclib or Abemaciclib) in participants with HR+ breast cancer.
