Everybody's skin has bacteria that normally lives on it. Previous research has shown that people with eczema (or atopic dermatitis [AD]) have much higher concentrations of a certain bacteria (S. aureus), especially when their disease is active but little is known about the role that this bacteria plays in psoriasis (i.e. disease severity, biomarkers and skin barrier function). The overarching purpose of this longitudinal study is to understand how the abundance of skin S. aureus (and several commensal bacteria) change as a consequence of standard of care treatment in the URMC dermatology clinics. This is a multi-center, longitudinal study which will characterize the gene expression profiles and transcriptomic endotypes that underlie mild and moderate-severe Atopic dermatitis (AD) and will determine changes in these expression patterns and endotypes in response to standard-of-care treatment. Participants will complete up to ten scheduled study visits with assessment of topical steroid response and dupilumab response (if uncontrolled with topical steroids). Skin samples will be collected at all study visits to determine the gene expression profiles and transcriptomic endotypes that underlie mild vs. moderate-severe AD disease. The investigators will also evaluate the lipidomic, metabolomic, proteomic, and microbiome profiles of AD skin endotypes associated with mild and moderate-severe AD disease. Non-AD participants will serve as a control population. The primary objective of this study is to determine if the type 2-high non-lesional skin (skin tape) endotype is associated with current mild versus moderate-severe AD disease. Read Less

This is a prospective, multicenter, sample collection study using DermTech's non-invasive skin collection kits to evaluate genomic biomarkers and microbiome information from pediatric and adult subjects with atopic dermatitis(AD). Samples collected will be analyzed to detect gene signatures and microbiome populations associated with AD and sub-populations of AD. Read Less
