There are currently 5 active clinical trials seeking participants for Acute Respiratory Failure research studies. The states with the highest number of trials for Acute Respiratory Failure participants are Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ontario and North Carolina.
Waveform Capnography Compared to Colorimetric Carbon Dioxide Detection During Tracheal Intubation of Critically Ill Adults
Recruiting
This study will compare the sensitivity and specificity of waveform capnography versus colorimetric carbon dioxide detection to identify tracheal placement of the endotracheal tube during intubation of critically ill adults.

Virtual Reality in ICU - PARTNER
Recruiting
This project is designed to have patients participate in a virtual environment with various tasks such as breathing exercises, games to help the brain, and techniques that promote relaxation while hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The participation in research will last about 5 days and take about 15 to 45 minutes each day.

Investigating Dyadic Expectations About ARF Survivorship (IDEAS)
Recruiting
The purpose of this observational study is to understand how adults who survive acute respiratory failure (ARF) and the people (usually family) who support ARF survivors after returning home think about the first 6 months of recovery. The study aims to find out if expectations about the recovery process after ARF are associated with mental health symptoms in both survivors and the survivor's care partners. Study participants will complete 3 surveys over 6 months. These surveys ask questions abou... Read More

Simulation Trial of Telemedical Support for Paramedics
Recruiting
In the United States, the current standard of prehospital (i.e. outside of hospitals) emergency care for children with life-threatening illnesses in the community includes remote physician support for paramedics providing life-saving therapy while transporting the child to the hospital. Most prehospital emergency medical services (EMS) agencies use radio-based (audio only) communication between paramedics and physicians to augment this care. However, this communication strategy is inherently lim... Read More

Blue Protocol and Eko Artificial Intelligence Are Best (BEA-BEST)
Recruiting
This is an observational study that will be enrolling University of Louisville patients who present to the Emergency Department in Acute Respiratory Failure. This study will be to determine if the addition of Eko AI-assisted lung auscultation examination to a standard of care Pulmonary POCUS + assists with acute respiratory failure diagnosis.
